This man is about to start a family. Wow.

I believe he already has. Think his daughter was born around the masters last year. What an example.

Apparently, I have selective memory. In fairness, I see a difference, one time and giving an attempt at repairing the green vs five times and not repairing

Bobby Jones had a temper. Perhaps his most famous temper tantrum was ripping up his scorecard, thus removing himself from competition. He was also know to throw a club now and then. As he explained, "When you feel a fool, and a poor golfer to boot, what else can you do but throw the club away?"

Was it Tommy Bolt who said something like, 'some shots are just incompatible with the club remaining in your hands.'

But then again, what the hell do I know?

The damage caused to greens by Sergio Garcia in the inaugural Saudi International as he became the first player in European Tour history to be disqualified for such behaviour was a mixture of deliberate “scuff marks”...

They can suspend a guy (Simon Dyson) for two months for almost absent-mindedly tapping down a spike mark, but Sergio does this and gets nothing.

That's terrible.   The penalty should have been severe.

I have a temper.  Got it from my dad.  Not at people, but at situations.  Lost keys, dropped glass, missed shot in golf, etc.  Short, volatile explosion.  Yelling, cursing, throwing objects (not breaking things).  I always rationalized it by saying it was cathartic, got it out of my system.  What my wife finally made me realize that it wasn't about me, it was about those around me.  It made them feel bad, awkward, etc.  I finally saw it when I witnessed this type of reaction by a guy I play in a tennis drill class with.  I saw my own actions through the eyes of others.  It was eye opening.  Also, I have had previous heart attacks.  Good now, but doctor says to reduce stress.  So I did what few do.  I changed.  I no longer let things get to me.  I am calmer.  I can't control the action, but I can control my reaction.  I get the frustration.  But act like a father to be.  Your kids watch what you do much more than what you say.  My kids, who used to be afraid of making me mad, now say that they are not afraid of my reactions anymore and are proud of my new found restraint.  So it is possible to change, you just have to make the decision to do it.  Hope Sergio can, but few I know have actually done it.  It is hard, but it gets easier the more you do it.  Like a swing change, just needs a lot of reps.

I never really gave much thought about Garcia doing anything negative. I remember him spitting in the cup. Not much else until now. If anything, maybe I might  lump him into the group of smart alecks that associates themselves with the pro golf business.

One thing in the article where he said "it will never happen again" I don't think  is a sincere remark on his part. I would expect him to mess up again, out of frustration, in the future.

I don't think it's that big a deal.  I wouldn't really enjoy playing with a guy getting that mad about it, but it's different when it's your livelihood and your ability is that high.  I'm sure his caddy repaired the greens.  I'd have more of a problem had he thrown his club and it hit some one.  IIRC, that occurred last year with some pro, can't remember who.

The final event of the Web.com Tour regular season is stressful enough without a bizarre and unlikely incident that went down in the second round. There were rumblings on social media Friday evenin…

Good on you for doing that.  It's amazing what seeing yourself through the eyes of others can do.  My kids have started mimicking me in ways I don't find flattering, so I am making a conscientious effort to change. It's hard, but the end will be well worth the effort.

His caddie did not repair the greens.

I dont blame him in a way. His caddie is paid to carry the clubs and advise, not clean up after his player has hit the self destruct button. In an ideal world the player should do the repairing, unfortunately we don't.

Garcia did take ownership of his actions after the event but maybe a case of too little too late?

I have a mental picture of Sergio going full Tasmanian Devil out there, leaving a path destruction for his fellow competitors to navigate in his wake.

This is indicative of a  persistent spiritual deficiency.. he needs to work on it.  It is a long-standing pattern, though it has seemed to ebb and flow over the years.

Well, not entirely. He minimized it for one thing saying ‘a couple greens’ when it was five. He didn’t repair them, which is 100% douchebagness and isn’t really something he can own up to. One green? Yeah...own up to it and apologize like hell. He really didn’t. He just accepted the DQ which isn’t really owning up to it at all. Owning up would’ve been:

On his own call he would’ve owned up to damaging the greens and offering to go repair them. Apologize and withdraw from the tournament. El Niño really blew this one.

Wow.  I really want to like him, but there's no excuse for this crap.  The bunker beatdowns are silly, but likely forgivable to many.  But the greens?  Altogether...awful behavior.  El Niño Petulante.

Doing it once is a tantrum, but 5 times. That’s just being a dick.....

Also it is negatively affecting every other player behind him on the course.

I once played with. A friends 11 year old son who threw a club and started cussing like his grandma who taught him. I quietly told him. Casey I don’t want to ever see you do that again is that clear making eye contact the whole time. 3 holes later he throws his 5 iron and starts cussing I put the boy over my knee and wore his hide out with the 5 iron. His dad just watched. Years later we played and he made a point of thanking me for correcting his behavior and teaching him that he didn’t have to be a little jerk!! His words not mine. Lol

Sergio doesn’t have a dad like I did, I was a pretty good bowler from bantom kids league all the way to the PBA. When I was 10 I was in a kids tournament and our team blew a game we never should have, as I walked to the lockers with my bowling ball I simply bounced it into a cider block wall. My dad grabbed me by the sleeve and sternly told me, NEVER AGAIN if you want me to pay for your bowling. Needless to say I took losing a lot better after that.

Yikes.  Sounds like child abuse to me.  Not to mention assault.  And if someone did that to a kid of mine I would press charges to the maximum extent of the law.  Hard to believe you are proud of this or think it is funny.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
