4:40 for a foursome is an hour longer than it should be

Yup. And what is even more remarkable is the PGA Tour players will exceed that time when they are a twosome in the final round. Two players taking longer than 2.5 hours is absurd.

Each player can save just a little time per hole and it makes a huge difference.  Think of this, in a foursome, if each player did something to play just 10 seconds faster per hole that's 40 seconds per hole, 2 minutes for 3 holes, so 12 minutes from their round.  On tour twosomes take 4 hours to play, that's an insane amount of time to hit just 65 to 75 shots, it should be 3.5 hours max.  The many times I've been in the first tee time as a twosome we play in 3 hours walking.

I can't stand watching players on the tour play slow. Play like its only about them. You do have to remember they are walking very long courses. (Torry Pines was 7700 yards.) Usually never flat. Hills make it worse. Still they rarely are not far from the fairway and they have spotters watching where their ball lands. The tour should have golf carts only drive them to their ball off the tee. then they walk it in from their.

golf.com has a new article posted about how people shouldn't make JB Holmes the fall guy for slow play. Although it also did remind me that he held up the Grammies one year....

Their point is that because the Tour doesn't care, then he is just buying into the situation that they created.   However what I find striking is that Holmes did not do basic common sense things, like look at your putt before it's your turn and other smart things that cut down on the time to play a shot.   Part of the complaints that I recall here are that he basically watches everything else around him and then starts his pre-shot when it's his turn.

I personally cannot stand the dead air and manufactured dialogue that is all too common in the few broadcasts I've seen the past few years.   Or commercials all the time.  I like the action on Thursday and Fridays because you get to see a lot more and there is more to cut to.

That's amazing, I love it! I wonder if someone will bring out a frisbee or something one day, to pass the time. 😁

One of those small Nerf footballs with the fins on the back?

Anyways, here's an article from Anya Alvarez, professional golfer who was hit with a slow play penalty IRL, and her viewpoint.

JB Holmes frustrated fans and fellow pros with a five-and-a-half hour round...

I applaud everything she says, except for one place where she is simply wrong:

Quote

the rule book allows players 40 seconds to take their shot

This is the same thing Koepka said, and its wrong.  40 seconds is the recommended time, but it is not a requirement.  And to be honest, the PGA Tour doesn't WANT to have to play within 40 seconds, or else they would have adopted that as a requirement.

He is awful for sure waiting to figure things out after his playing partners have hit.I guess he has to have his moment too since they are on tv.Problem is its not just Holmes.I saw Thomas ale his sweet time also only to lay up I believe on 17,not sure.

But Na knows he's slow and wants to change, I can appreciate that about him. The other guys just don't care, and I think that's totally selfish and low class.

Maybe they could just do like The Oscars and start playing music when their time is up.

The old Johnny Carson Tonight Show theme would be great for this!
