I asked my home course when in the year they shut down for winter and was told when it snows. I will continue playing until that day and then hopefully find somewhere in the winter that stays open or an indoor course (if they exist). I was wondering how late into fall/winter you guys in the Midwest or colder winter areas continue to play?

I don't call it quits until the snow falls or the greens are frozen and the ball bounces off like concrete.

I used to be a diehard that played all winter providing the ground isn't snow covered.   I own my own cart-cover and all that kind of stuff............LOL

Lately...not so much because I have a 13yr old son that has winter activities that interfere.   I still play golf all winter long, but only when it doesn't conflict with the father/son time doing his stuff.   Once he graduates from HS and goes off to college and into life, I'll play a lot more.   For now, golf is a lower priority.

I live in the Northeast - I will play as long as there is no snow on the ground, and I don't need to wear gloves...which works out to be about 40 degrees or so.

Last year, I played on Christmas Eve and New Year's Day in Philadelphia...that was great.

I golfed last year into mid November (Northeast PA).  I remember there were flurries in the air and it was damn cold and windy.  I was wearing a knit hat pulled down over my ears.  I was a little overdressed because I was sweating like crazy.  I did catch a wicked cold after that little ordeal.   I will try to go as long as its open.  You do have the place to yourself which is kind of nice.

The latest I can remember playing is the middle of November, but it was unseasonably warm that year. The course had all the flags removed but didn't mind me playing. Talk about not flag hunting... all you can do is aim for the middle of the green (which is what I should do anyway) and walk up to look for the hole location.

I played this past Sunday and the temp was 38* at 8 am.

The GHIN season ends here on Oct 31.

But I'll continue to play as long as the weather cooperates. I'm certain to play at least a few rounds in November, hopefully more.

Any rounds in December are considered bonus golf. We'll see.

If it's over 40 degrees and the courses are letting people out, I'll golf. SLC has pretty mild winters (in the valley), I've played every month so far this year. Back east I'd typically be able to play up through November, and as early as late February... Just depends when the snow would start and end.

Until I show up and the gates are locked!  It varies year to year, hopefully this year will be early November at the earliest.  Simulators for me all winter after that.

GHIN season ends October 31st. The rains are hitting, and preferred lies are in effect. We're also getting into punching and sanding season which means auto two-putts for about a week and no reporting those scores unless you're truly a masochist and like putting on stimp 3 greens, followed by cauliflower greens for the remainder of the season and 2' gimme putts. Then we hit leaf season and the local leaf rules where you lose your ball in the fairway or rough and there's no penalty. Then they aerate the fairways and we have mess. We're pretty much done now for decent golf, but fortunately the green fees are really cheap for practice rounds - $10. Can't beat that until the rains really start.

But we're supposed to have a relatively dry winter. Relatively dry. And warm. Relatively warm. If it's near 60 I might hit the course. If it's around 50 forget it. I hate the cold. I have rain gear, too, and I hate getting wet. I might play some virtual rounds.

My season ends on September 30, and my new/next season starts on October 1st. I have about 24 hours+/- to reflect on my past year's accomplishments with this game, and to plan a head on what I want to accomplish during the next 12 months.  In other words I golf year around.

Cool, I got another new avatar.

I'll be on the lanes for sure................

My son carried a 210 average last year as a 12yr old.   If it wasn't for him, I'd be on the golf course.  He turned 13 May22nd........and started his new league season last Saturday by pitching a 701 series.  He's ready..

When it comes to bowling, this little guy is "Beast Mode".

I'm playing less golf to spend Father/son time at the lanes.   We're having a blast..... yea, bowling isn't for everybody!  I get that!   We're both pretty good at it though so that helps!  He got me started in the game, but I still have the upper hand.  He's nipping at my heels though!!   I know where he got his good "hand eye" coordination from........ his daddy!!!   If he got back into golf, he'd be really good!!  for now, his interest is bowling...so be it.  He's light...... and throws a 15lb ball hard with velocity and revs. Throws with authority!........

Hopefully all through and October. Sometimes I can get a few November rounds of the courses stay open.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
