And I'm not counting out any surprises where the construction messed up any of the courses.

It'll be interesting.  There's two courses near me (two 18s at the same complex) that serve as parking for a nearby college football stadium (and I suppose other events there).  I haven't played them shortly after a game, but I imagine there has to be a rule for casual oil when that happens.  @Lihu might have played it right after an event at some point and can probably tell a better story than I am.

2.  DJ could have won that tournament. Again, he gave it away.

What a moronic comment. Rory could have won it if he'd shot 10 under. Or anyone else. Koepka would've lost if he'd tripled 18. Tiger would've won if he'd made the cut and finished 9 under.

How did DJ "give it away"? Do you think he decided he couldn't be bothered. He was under pressure on a tough course.

Your comments make as much sense as saying "Brooks could've shot 61 on round two if he hadn't left 5 putts short and they'd gone in.

I would love to see a debate between you and DJ where you explain to him that he "gave it away". What response would you expect? It's easy from the armchair.

Whether it be stairs or stare...the effect is the same....it makes people slip and fall.

There is nothing more satisfying than being 2 or 3 down in match play and then coming back and beating your opponent.  One of my most amazing victories happened in a similar fashion.  I was 3 down to William Tornquist heading into the 15th hole...a devilish 200 yarder over a large hourglass-shaped lake.  Willy hit his shot to the top portion of the green whilst the flag was in front.  He gave a little fist pump and smirked at me.  I gave him my icy stare and he looked a little shell shocked.  I then proceeded to hit one of my best shots of the day, 10 feet from the hole.  William 2-putted but I knocked mine in.

On the next tee, William said to me "nice shot, Champ".   I simply gave him a receptive nod.  I beat him the rest of the way in and won my 4th club championship.

William has never been the same after that match.  He finds it hard to even sit at the same table.  He knows I own him.

FWIW, after the PGA, DJ is ranked 7th in SG: Putting on the PGA Tour this season. Prior to the PGA, he was ranked 5th. Last season he ranked 25th for the whole season.

Here are his recent strokes gained putting numbers in majors (where available)

2018 Masters -- Finished T10

2018 US Open +.755  Solo 3rd

2018 Open Championship -- M.C.

2018 PGA Championship -.084 T27

2019 Masters -- T2

2019 PGA Championship +.748 Solo 2nd

You have to be at least a pretty good putter in majors to get 4 top 10s in your last 6 majors.

The same thing can be said about most golfers on the PGA tour

Yes, his putting stats and records are great but I'm still not convinced of his putting ability when it really counts. Tiger made those putts. Jack did too. Of course I'm comparing him to probably the two best clutch putters who ever lived. If I remember correctly he and Brooks both had some pretty good looks at birdie on the last couple holes at Augusta and didn't even come close. It just seems like he throws in a three putt at a really bad time or misses a 5 footer when he really needs to make it.

In the final round of The Masters, Dustin Johnson shot a bogey free back 9 while playing the final 6 holes in 4 under par, including 3 straight birdies at 15,16, and 17.

Of course he isn't up there with the best clutch putters of all time, nobody is saying that he is. But it's not accurate IMO to say he isn't a great putter in major championships. You don't shoot a back 9 32 at Augusta on Sunday and have 4 top 10s in your last 6 majors without being a pretty good putter.

One 3 putt from 12 feet on the 72nd hole in a major 4 years ago doesn't mean he isn't a great putter in majors.

Tiger made those putts.

Did he? Tiger made a lot of clutch putts on Sundays during majors, but it was almost always to preserve the lead, not to take it.

Yeah the biggest misconception is “Tiger ALWAYS made those putts”. He made a lot of great clutch putts, yes, but he missed some big ones, too. He missed some big ones in the 2009 PGA Champ. He missed some putts in the Masters when he contended in 07, 08 and other years. He missed some key putts at the Open in ‘13 when he contended. It’s a testament to just how often he contended in majors, but while he won his fair share by making big putts, he also missed his fair share in critical moments, too.

Everyone misses clutch putts at times. It happens.

It'll be nice to get the course back for the public to play. The pickings around the area aren't all that great. The public ones.

Really?  I guess you're talking Nassau County which is essentially Bethpage and Eisenhower but if you're willing to drive just a bit to Suffolk, then Long Island on the whole has plenty of places to play.

Thank you.  It reminds me of Michael Jordan talking about how many potentially game-winning shots he took but missed.

The ‘07 US Open is another example. He actually led for a stretch there on that Sunday and was in the final pair with Baddeley, but missed some big putts. I remember a clutch one he missed on 13 on Sunday. Tiger may be the GOAT, but even he’s not perfect. Neither was Jack.

If he was perfect he would have won every tournament he entered.  Unless someone else was even more perfect that week.  Perfection does not exist in golf.

Exactly. I just hate when people say “Tiger always made a putt when he needed to.” No he didn’t. He missed his fair share of key putts, too. Like the MJ example above, that guy missed more than 9000 shots in his career and a lot of game winning ones but he’s still regarded as the best to play the game. Even the great ones fail, but it’s those failures that make them the best because it pushes them to try harder.

TV hype, but nobody can will a putt to go in.  If the pros could really do this then they'd will a lot more putts to go in during their early rounds.  I once "willed" a 2 footer to go in but it wouldn't even start rolling.  Afterwards my brain hurt.

I don't think anybody worth their bacon meant it literally. It is a qualitative statement then quantitative. How many players even faced that many chances of key putts? He made a shit load of those he faced.

Other than trash and tire marks on the fairways, it’s not too bad... of course, I sometimes go to those UCLA games myself 😁

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
