And T3. Rose and Spaun overtook him. Tommy with a terrible bogey on 17. Quit on the par putt before he even hit it.

Was hoping to see him win…just because.  He has come close and self implodes each time - wonder if he has developed a head case of “how will I lose it this time?”

I'm rooting for him to never win at this point. 😄

Same, he basically just gave up. He was taking those chipping practice swings and he was slouched shoulders defeated. He is probably a great guy, but I don’t want to root for someone who just calls it quit when there is a chance.

He is just a smaller version of Rory and the Masters, he will win eventually.

Um no.

Rory Wins

PGA Tour 29, EU 19, Majors 5, FedEx Cup 3

Tommy

PGA Tour 0, EU 7, Majors 0, FedEx 0

He may win eventually, but he’s not in the same league as Rory.

Don't get me wrong, I like TF from a nice-guy-next-door perspective but I was surprised at the nerves he showed on the 2nd putt on 17th. That was unmistakably a stroke of a player who had already submitted to the writing on the wall. Honestly I would not expect that out of a veteran tour player. I would have liked to continue rooting for him but gotta see a bit more fight from him. Rory could be reasonably accused of being a head case but he is a fighter. Big difference.

I think in fairness what he means is Tommy's chances to win PGA Tour events are fairly similar in number to Rory's chances to win the Masters. I don't think he's remotely saying that Tommy and Rory are in the same league. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I took the comment as meaning if he keeps giving himself chances to win then eventually he will win one. Rory had a thing in his head about the Masters and won anyway. Tommy has a thing in his head about PGA Tour events. They do seem fairly analogous to me.

He’s got to be the best player that’s never won a PGA-tournament these days.

Imagine banking millions of dollars and having no trophy to show for it. Here are the players with most money earned on the PGA Tour without a win...

I don't think it's close. He has $32 million in earnings. The next close is Denny McCarthy (who????) at $21 million in earnings.

Just by luck he should probably have grabbed one by now.

If we want to be pedantic, Jordan Spieth would be listed as the best player who hasn't won a PGA Tournament. ;-)

(Edit for clarification:  I agree with you, Zeph;  I thought you and some others would find the comment funny, but reading it later, I realize it might not read that way.)

Oh wow, Denny McCarthy;  his name came up a lot a few years ago.  Whatever happened to him?  Apparently he made a lot of money.  I suppose that's probably better than being the lowest earning player who has won on the PGA Tour, although these days, the winner's check is a lot larger than it was when I started watching.

Akshay Bhatia beat him in a playoff last year I think. He went something like -7 on his last 7 holes to get into a playoff and then rinsed a wedge on the 1st extra hole in a way that would have made Tommy (and Rory) blush.

Thanks;  I've been out for a bit.  The only rinsed wedge from Rory that I remember was a quick "that's not my game" to "that's totally my game."  Rory hit a 400+ yard drive and I thought "that's not how I play golf."  Then he hit his second shot into the water and I decided that yes it is. ;-)

I did see that, but I mostly remember Rory and Justin.  That and the [U.S.] Open are two events I always carve time out for, even if I'm not active in golf at the time.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
