I think your dislike for Tiger is clouding your judgment.

Stricker "lead" just fine two years ago.

I really don’t think that’s it

I like to think that I would say the same thing no matter who it was…

Well...he set up Fowler for a good approach with that awesome drive. Fowler laid an egg with that lousy 137yd push. But he made the clutch putt to tie the hole. DJ is the colossal flop.

Huge finish. Would have loved that last point. A half is what it is.

DJ needs to sit a session. He is not looking sharp. I would sit Woodland also. Break up Reed and Simpson. Not sure who to pair those 2 with.

Simpson probably the only player who’s willing to play with him.

Exactly. He drew the short straw and will be stuck with that a$$hat until singles.

I’ve got to wonder if the results would be different if the captain was completely focused on leading the team, rather than trying to play as well.

If not for Tiger, I think that the USA would likely be down 8-2 (or more, possibly).

He's played the best, most consistent golf of any US player over the past two days, imo.  I'm glad that he's healthy and playing well again.

I don't really think captaincy on the course is a big factor.  Of course, if you have a very young golfer who has never played match-play type golf, then it might help to guide them, but most golfers at this level have played enough stroke and match play that it doesn't really matter.  Plus, I do believe that seeing the scoreboard to have your captain and possibly idol for many of these golfers, leading, is more inspiration than him talking to you

Why play him at all. Sit him out. He ain't exactly on fire.

I am pretty sure the last celebration of JT-Tiger will be a meme for months.

I’m thinking less “coaching”, and more “leading/inspiring”...

How do you 'inspire' someone to make a putt?

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Playing Reed/Simpson today has been the only mistake Tiger has made.  If no one can play with Reed, maybe “Captain America” should have stayed in America.  Even if he gets another singles win, it doesn’t offset losing 3 team matches.

The same way you inspire them to catch a football, make a basket, or hit a baseball.

Generally by instilling a sense of responsibility to the greater team.  I’d argue that doing so may be even more important when trying to bring together a group of people who spend the majority of their professional career competing individually.

    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.
