Would you rather #8:
Assuming you had unlimited time each day.

Would you rather play 18 holes of golf 6 days per week but only go practice golf once per week?
Or, would you rather practice golf 6 days per week and only play 18 holes once per week?

I think I would prefer playing 6 days a week.

I'd definitely rather play, but I would hope I could at least warm up with a bucket of balls before the round and a couple chips or putts to check green speed. Not that I always do those things on my own depending on time, but it would stink to have to get a cold start to every round I play.

Practicing isn’t the same as warming up...

I haven’t practiced 5 times in the past year.  I hit 20 balls or so to warm up before every round.

Would You Rather... #9

Would you rather have the worst putting and short game in the world, but the best driving/iron game in the world, or have the worst driving/iron game in the world, but the best putting/short game in the world?

Personally, I’d prefer option #2. Short game and putting saves you more strokes than the long game. As my grandpa says, “It’s not how you drive, it’s how you arrive.”

Your grandpa is wrong.

Anyone who has been paying attention the last six years would choose the best driving/approach shot game. Easily.

Oh heck... it'd be fun to drive better than Rory and strike irons better that Stenson.  I could live with a bad short game and putting.  I figure you wouldn't need a short game since you're probably accumulating 16-18 GIR's.  And all your putts are within 15 feet... the worst putter can still 2 putt those most of the time.

Yeah, this stuff isn't even close. Nobody should vote the other way.

On the average course there are 4 par 5's.  An easy birdie on each of those.  And you'll have at least four 3-putts from 15' and under.  And one birdie putt will glance off a spike mark and go in by accident!  1 under par every day... sure, I'll take it.

You will not score that low.-BUt you will score MUCH lower than if you were the worst driver/iron player.

@dagolfer18 -It is probably too late for your grandpa to change but it is not too late for you to learn.

Very true. I acknowledge that my question was bad.

If your long game is the worst in the world, you'll never get to putt. You will give up the game.

Think of it this way. Would you rather have to teach the worst putter in the world to become at least mediocre? Or would you rather have to teach the worst driver/approach shot hitter in the world to become at least mediocre? It's far far FAR easier to improve your putting and chipping by a measurable amount.

Besides if you are the best driver in the world, there's lots of money to be made and fun to be had in the Long Drive Championships. Way more fun, and money to be made than on any mini-golf course I've ever been to.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Much rather have the best driving/iron game.  That makes golf enjoyable.  Anyway I am not a great putter, so no surprises for me.😂

Driving and irons. I could putt with my wedges if I only have 4 foot putts for birdie every hole.

Yeah, I'll take the best full-swing game.

But no, I wouldn't want to live with bad short game or putting, that would get pretty irksome pretty quick.

Driver/long game is king.

But 'worst' short/putting, like worse than my 13 year old who putts off the green from 10 feet most times? Yeah no. 'Worst in the world' of anything would have me looking for a different sport.

Driving/Iron, but this is a really poor question. None of us would play golf if we had the worst of anything as previously noted. I think it would be more fair to say something along the lines of best of either, and then the other, the skill level of a 30 capper or something. I would still answer the same in that scenario

I know it’s a poor question. I even admitted that last night. I think the question would have been better if I said the best driving, and left out iron play altogether, implying that your iron play in both scenarios is neither good nor bad, just okay.

    • Day 166 (15 Oct 24) - Worked with the 6i into the net today.  Focused on the legs - slight knee bend, keeping pressure on lead foot, getting rotation thru contact.
    • No. The Steelers aren't paying either of them very much. They're not gonna get rid of a SB winning QB in case Justin is injured or something.
    • It could be to exhibit for trade bait.   Some teams may be looking for another QB (Miami) and if Wilson plays well, the compensation could be large.
    • Ball strike is king. You hit with a glancing blow (hook or slice), your smash factor just decreases a ton. Having a face to path angle of like 20 degrees versus something like 3 degrees is huge.  Yea, getting in shape is a good idea all around. Power is moving something heavy really fast. So, increasing how much you can lift, then improving on how fast you can move it will improve your power. In general, I think the two biggest tests for distance is like a chest press and standing vertical high jump. Some people are gifted with fast hands, but having good lower body can amplify what you have. Using the ground the correct way really ramps up the rotation speed, and then that can get the clubhead moving faster. Still, the hands do get down from the top of the backswing really fast.  If you start gaining strength and power gains. Knowing how to use the ground properly is important. You can have all the leg strength, but if you are not activating it correctly it is a waste. That is where good mechanics come into play.
    • Any thoughts?  Not sure I agree with this. I think Fields is doing good. The team is 4-2. I am not sure Russel is any better. Last year by QBR, they were basically the same player. Two years ago, Russel was just BAD. If you want to take prep time away from the guy who got you to 4-2, just to give a guy who has been injured a shot, I think it is a waste of time.  Hey, I do not watch them every weekend, but maybe some Pittsburgh fans can chime in.
