Fill it in and be done with it. Bring some soil from Sand Valley for the last scoop you use to fill in that hole.

Sounds like you’re throwing good money after bad.

That is a SERIOUS consideration. If it wasn't for Emma, that would be the plan for sure. It's not completely off the table yet. I could build me a sim room in that spot...haha.

A few pictures from Lawsonia yesterday that don’t do the place any justice:

Thanks for the outstanding week!! Absolute dream golf trip.

My kids like their souvenirs.

I know, I know. This pool is going to cost me about 18k to repair though.

Oohh, my sympathies. That's a gut punch. See you in another outing. I am sure there will be more.

I think 12 is a good number, so while I have spaces out to 16, I think internally both Nate and I are liking 12. Or 8, but 12 is better, IMO, and I hope we can stay at 12 or so.

Just to confirm, I'm still in.  I'll miss seeing @mvmac and meeting @TN94z , but occasionally real life (or better offers) get in the way.

Sorry to say that I'm out for Sand Valley. Just got invited to an am event at Bend Golf Club.

Thanks for trying to make it happen Mike.  Hope you have a great time at the tournament!

I am going to have to bow out as well. The estimates I am getting to repair my pool aren't looking good and I will need every dime I can gather. Replacing all of the concrete is not going to be cheap....sorry guys.

Sorry to hear it, that is a tough break.

Not ready to be added to any list yet, but I did just catch up on the thread and my interest is piqued.  @cipher, just curious, is it at all feasible to do the 5th day if you're flying through Minneapolis?  Cursory glance gives me nonstop options through MN but more expensive and longer trip options to MIL.  But if they are in complete opposite directions, then maybe that just won't work.

The courses all look amazing too.

That would be tough but not impossible.  Might requite flying out on the 6th day.  From Lawsonia Links it would be a 4 hour drive back to MSP airport.

Waiting on my pool quote to come in this week, but I foresee it killing my golf trip budget.

Me too, my wife and I are in the process of looking for/making offers for a new house so we are keeping as much cash free as we can right now. Plus I started a new job back in Jan which has 5 less vacation days than my previous role.

Sheesh, people are dropping like flies. We don't smell that bad...

:-D:-D:-D It's not about the smell I promise! Our original plan was to start looking for a house late summer/early fall so I thought I would have been fine for the trip but then the new job came with a pretty good salary increase so we were able to start looking for a house earlier in the year plus the loss of 5 PTO days didn't help my case either.

Increased salary and scaling back on golf doesn’t make sense. 🙂

Completely counter-intuitive.

But this leads me to ask, are the dates definitive enough that I should really start thinking about booking flights?

Most (maybe all?) airlines are still allowing free changes and refunds. So it might not be a bad idea to jump on a cheap flight if you see one.

Yes, if you are able to find cheap flights you could do so at this time.

    • I started golf with professional lessons around the age of 11 and have been golfing ever since.  Most of the stories with kids involved is of me.  However, I was also a rules marshal in my home course when we have junior tournaments there so have seen some kids who have become very impressive amateurs and even one or two who have become pro's. Regarding clubs, see if they can use the same clubs provided it doesn't affect their swing.  If not, either consider getting shaft extenders or look at clubs where you can change the shaft with a tool and then replace shafts as necessary.  Not cheap, I admit, but might be necessary.  Definitely consider the younger child getting hand me down clubs from the elder child provided the specs fit.
    • Our Junior golf program starts kids at a very young age and the kids progress as their abilities become better. Most will start will the 3 hole program playing from around 100 yards. Then they move back to 150. Then the program advances them to 5 hole rounds. They start at 150 and move back to 200 yards. When they are able to average a set scoring ability they will advance to 9 hole short course and then 9 hole long. During the stages, staff will have instructional days along with fun games they play at the range. Each season consists of a putting contest and a family scramble with award dinner at the end of the season sessions. The program has become very popular as the membership grows with over 300 kids participating. Parents are encouraged to keep scores for groups during the season. Many just walk along and observe and assist when needed. Most kids complete the entire program and they make many new friends. My observance over the years is when kids play, they are learning safe manners and  exhibit a good mannerism learning etiquette and sportsmanship and rules. IMO, kids will enjoy leaning golf with other kids. I enjoyed having my grandson in the program for several years. It also provided me an opportunity to meet the children of many regular golf members who I have golfed with through the years.
    • I think you keep searching for different things when in reality you need to find your priority thing and work on that until it’s no longer the priority thing.
    • Oops. I should have said 'discarded cigarette lighter' rather than a walnut.
    • I have been doing a drill where I swing with my right arm only (right-handed golfer). In taking the club back slowly with my right arm only to the top and pausing there, I have found that the only real efficient way to initiate the downswing is for the lower body/hips to rotate towards the target. The lower body is needed to tug/pull the upper body/right arm. The momentum created on the downswing of the right arm does not have the left arm to get in the way and stall the swing. I find that the body opens up fully to the target without thought or concentrated effort involved. So practice a full, slow backswing with a pause at the top with the right arm only. Then do a good downswing and the body will be facing the target and there is also some good lag and forward shaft lean.
