Are we going to get instructions ahead of time for the slower people in the class so that I don't have to figure out what I'm doing 20 minutes before I tee off? It's this, right?

Are we playing as teams, or individuals, or whatever? I need to know if I'm going to be wearing a white belt to f*** with @ChetlovesMer.

@billchao, 2 things.

1 - I'm one of the slower people in the class. ... almost for certain. Having said that. I like the game. I say let's do it. My personal opinion is play it net, with 50% handicap. What say you all?

2 - Wear the white belt at your own peril. The white belt will be like an albatross around your neck....  The Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner kind of albatross, not a double-eagle kind of albatross. 😁

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

It's not too hard:

You count two scores per hole. One player's score always counts (the A, B, C, or D player that alternates), and then you must count one of the other three players as well. Net.

That's all.

It's not a vote, boys. It's already decided. 😛 Everything is 80% net and it's a team game.

Ok so someone’s score must count if they’re up, and then the second score would be a wildcard from the remaining members of the group? For a foursome does that make 17 and 18 wildcard holes and we take best two net scores?

Yep.

And for those with threesomes, the last three holes are wildcard holes.

I think @StuM will want to know what tees y'all plan to play. Since the colors get mixed up, but the yardages are almost the same, let's call the tees "Back" or "Middle" or "Forward":

At EagleSticks, your options:

  • Back - Gold - 6508 - 68.7/123 [Link]
  • Middle - Blue - 6124 - 66.9/120 [Link]
  • Forward - White - 5493 - 64.5/112 [Link]

At The Virtues:

  • Back - Blue - 6664 - 72.3/134 [Link]
  • Middle - White - 6180 - 70.2/127 [Link]
  • Forward - Gold - 5641 - 67.4/122 [Link]

If your handicap index is a 10.0, for example, you would get:

EagleSticks - Gold: 8, Blue: 6, White: 4 [((10.0 * 123 / 113) + (68.7 - 70)) * 0.8 = 7.7]
Virtues - Blue: 10, White: 8, Gold: 5 [((10.0 * 134 / 113) + (72.3 - 72)) * 0.8 = 9.7]

The links are appropriate for each set of tees, but won't multiply the results by 0.8, of course.

@StuM, I'll play the Back set.

Thought you were going to play the 7,400 tees at Virtues since you haven't shot 100+ in a while :-P

@iacas didn’t present it as an option.

Don’t sell me short, I can still shoot over 100 from 6,600 yards 😃

I think we just need @StuM, @vasaribm, and @CarlSpackler to let us know what tees they'd like to play.

And if anyone knows anyone for @David L Yskes's spot… still open.

    • Day 73: Really wiped out today, so just hit 15 balls with 9-3 swings, and then putted around inside.
    • I tried them out a few years back but chose the Callaway Mavrik Pros. They’re nice as most Mizuno irons are. I used to play MP54’s and really liked them. I had a Mizuno stand  bag and never had any issues with it.🙂
    • Day 184: 6/24/24 Putting practice on a 3’ ruler, 1” wide. Good session and I hope to get back to full swings once tennis elbow improves. Exercises aren’t currently helping.
    • So last weekend was our annual two man best ball (two round net total for flight honors + a cross flight shootout tournament -  Schaubach Cup) tournament. It was a tale of two rounds. On day 1 my partner and bestie Pete (15.5 hcp) totally ham and egged to shoot a tourney best 58 - four shots clear of our next flight competitor team. He shot a career best 79 coming out with 5 straight pars while I fought my driver. I finally found my swing on the 6th hole and birdied three holes on the back side all of which I was stroking to pick up three net eagles. We basically played our our minds. It's amazing when driver/wedge/putter all workout. On the same day.  Day 2, as often happens ended up being a different story. We couldn't get much done with greens drying out to lightning fast (12 stimp) and shot a net 70 to finish 4 shots outside of making it to the playoffs. Good news was our flight leader won winning everyone in our flight $300 each.  In summary, except for the first four of the five holes, I have never driven the ball better and ecstatic that my putter made me a few bombs. Wedge was as good as I can control one in the pesky 55 to 85 yard range. Of course, all of this was day 1. Day 2 wasn't terrible but made no birds and had three three-putts...and my partner played like he had blown his load on Day 1. Heh. Another team shot 59 to beat us by a cumulative 4 shots. Came in 2nd. All in all was a great weekend.
    • Before a round I will go to the practice green and figure out my distance control for speed.  I do not, like most people on the practice green, try to make putts.  I go over to a side away from the holes and putt 3 balls 4 different distances.  I first move my putter directly back in a line to where it lines up with my back inner foot and putt that distance 3 times, then I pace off how far the 3 balls rolled.  I repeat this both up and downhill and write down the resulting paces.  I then repeat this moving putter back linearly to the center of my back foot then to the outer back foot and finally to about 6in past my back foot.  Then I count the paces for each one both up and downhill and record the results.  Since I started this distance control way of putting I dropped 5 strokes in my scores because I rarely 3 putt anymore. When I line up a putt now I feel VERY confident that I will either make the putt or have a very makeable second putt.
