The British Open — 2024 Royal Troon

I know, I know that you will change the title but it’s time for the Worlds best golfers to suffer the shitty weather of a Scottish summer (sic). Troon is a much better course than Hoylake, and the Scottish fans are not as rabid as the Liverpool lot were last year. 
I was at Troon for a practice day today and the course looked very neat indeed. The rough is pretty lush but the fairways and greens are green and soft so less danger of fiery bounces. 

It was cool today and blowing a steady 2-3 club breeze. The weather forecast is for a bit less over the rest of the week. I’m going back on the Sunday with the wife and some friends for our annual Open followed by steak, beer and karaoke trip

I'm playing tomorrow so won't be doing the wake up at 3:00 to start watching thing, though I might on Friday - we'll see how that goes.

tough links conditions exactly what we want to see .. JT doing surprisingly well over his first 10x holes  leading the pack some of the bigger USA names to tee off later ..

few BIG names struggling.. HOMA,RHAM,BRYSON... could see these three not making the cut

The Brits like to think there is only one Open, so they use the term THE OPEN. Still is and will always be The British Open to me. No different than the US Open, Canadian Open, etc. Calling it THE OPEN implies a sense of snobbery to me.

The weather seems a bit nastier than expected, in particular the wind is up. I expected scoring to be 2 shots or so better.

it’s not the only open but it is the OG and best. 
 

It’s like calling the Super Bowl winners “world champions”, when only one country actually plays the game. It’s an affectation!

The players that went out in the middle of the field today got the worst conditions and many of them struggled. Quite different from the conditions the later groups faced.

Except it is actually called "The Open Championship" and has been since it started long before the US Open or Canadian Open started. Someone should start a tournament called "The British Open". That would make for some comedy.

What do you call it when it's played in Ireland?
