Could you make significantly more money if you played significantly less golf?

For me, I think so. Makes me wonder.

I'm sure you can but couldn't you say that about a lot of the extracurricular activities? I'm not financially well off and do just enough to get by for now but I don't dwell on how much I can save by playing less golf because I enjoy it. Don't wonder and just enjoy unless you are having financial troubles.

I'm not talking about the money you save by playing less, I mean more the time you spend playing golf, invested into work/business, might produce a lot more. I hear you about other hobbies being the same. I am just thinking....I play 100 rounds of golf a year. What if I played 50 and put 250 hours into developing my business? What would that return be? This questing is starting to bug me.

Absolutely not...golf does not influence my income for the good or bad...but obviously not playing would add to my bottom line!

Nope. I don't get OT and work M-F, straight 40 hours. So, golf doesn't affect me either.

Until I retired I did play significantly less golf than I would have like to. I think I made more money because of that.

It's like anything else in life it should be done in moderation. As a business owner, I'm constantly balancing work time, family time and me time. I just took up golf this past July, but I've tried to fit it in during times when business and family won't suffer because of it. I took up golf because many of my customers play it, and I was motivated by their love of the sport as well as the opportunity to improve my relationship with them by getting together outside of the office.

The time I've dedicated to it this summer is higher than I'd like to in the future but was required to learn the sport and get to a point where I wouldn't embarrass myself on the course. I'm not there yet, but hope as time goes on I'll spend my time on the course with clients and friends and alot less at a range hitting balls by myself.

Probably, but why would I want to beat myself up that bad? Besides, if I don't get my golf fix I get pretty cranky.

That all depends. If you own your own business or if your paycheck is based on hourly rate, then of course! But if you are a "9 to 5-er", then no. You get paid the same check no matter what.

Personally, I own my own business and get paid per hour, so if I played less golf, I could technically make more money. But I also do a lot of client entertainment on a golf course, which is necessary to get more work. So if I don't play golf at all, my work may DECREASE as I need to keep the clients entertained and happy.

Like everything in life, it's about trade offs. You got to balance it properly...

I never take off really to go play golf, so no don't believe so.

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

I play with a group at work......... I'm salery and we take off work to play.

So, I guess the more golf I play the more my hourly rate goes up!!

How about using Television or aimless internet surfing as the trade off instead of golf?

I'm salary so any extra time I put in at the office doesn't make me more money. So I would rather be enjoying myself outside of work!

I think this is true for me. if i chose to work 5 days a week i would make an extra 10 or 15 percent per year i think. that would also be true if i decided to work a 16 or 20 hour day every day as well. in my mind i bought the business to make money, my staff runs it day to day more then i do, if wanted to focus all my time on growth...but i kind of don't want to do that. I make a good income and live a pretty good life...balance is the key.

i can understand your point OP for sure
i too run my own business and no word of a lie spend as much time on the course as i do in the office every week

BUT you know what......

i work less than most in a week and probably make more and have no problem with it
if im tooo busy, i cant golf and if i cant golf i get cranky!!! hahahaha!

if it ever gets to the point where im not paying bills (which it never would) then obviously i would make a change
but we also have golf months from mid April to mid Oct - so my season is limited

i have all winter to make up income!

    • Played Sunday and implemented the Mayo spinner. Hit my second shot long and left on three to a bare lie. I have seen this shot to a tucked pin but I don’t swing across it enough and hit it too far with a ton of spin but it rolled into the bunker. I pulled my approach short and left on ten to a horrible lie with about 3’ of rise to a tucked pin maybe 5’ on the green. Ball is in a damp lie with debris behind and in front of the ball. Hit it to 3.5’ but horseshoed the putt around the right edge, which was a common miss. I hooked my tee shot into an unplayable lie in the hazard on the left side of the par 5 16th. Hit a great recovery that rolled to about 45 yards short of the back right pin. Hit the spinner over a bumpy green that rolled just over the ridge to 3’. Sank the straight 2.5’ putt. Felt like I had good control of these shots!
