What About Bob Birdie. Great movie, hysterical. Richard Dreyfuss' descent into madness is brilliant. What About Bob?

I saw Kingsman: The Secret Service today. If it isn't an eagle, it's a tap-in birdie. Whoever cast Taron Egerton (I had to look up the name) deserves an award; he had been in virtually nothing beforehand but can carry a scene and a movie. He's going to be a big star. In full disclosure, I've liked all of Matthew Vaughn's movies, so I went into this with high expectations. If you haven't seen Layer Cake, do so.

Calvary - Great understated acting by Glesson and the whole ensemble. Downloaded the subtitles before watching this, glad I did, some of the accents tough to make out. One priest tries and absorbs the whole town's sins and there's a whole lot of sinning. Very sharp dialogue and captivating scenery. Learned what felching is. Wonder if Domhall is related to lead actor. Littlefinger's accent is still annoying. Birdie

Dear White People - Standing on the shoulders of Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing and School Daze, the director's debut rivals that of Whiplash's director. I even think this might be the better movie as it doesn't revolve around one amazing supporting actor's performance.  Somewhat loosely based on different incidents in colleges where parties had students dressed in blackface, sombreros, the offending photo all over the newspapers. A nuanced exploration of race, identity, sex and class. Birdie

Top Five - Keep hearing this is Chris Rock's big comeback movie - I haven't seen too many of his movies, but this is pretty funny, as other critics noted, kind of Rock doing a little Woody Allen. It's a walkie talkie, a la the Before trilogy, Certified Copy, etc... in NYC and I know all the locations, except for the jail, ha ha, very well. His stand up routine in the movie is too short. Par

What We Do in the Shadows Cross genre horror/mockumentary. Hilarious. If you liked Spinal Tap, eagle , otherwise birdie . Trailer explains it all.

That looks fun.  I loved Spinal Tap and Best in Show.  A Mighty Wind was okay.

I watched the Edge Of Tomorrow again. The first time I posted about this movie I think I gave it a birdie. If I did, I'm bumping it up to an eagle. Even more impressive the second time around.

The Sound of Music - Lady Gaga's performance put in my subconscious the urge to watch this again. Just chock full of good songs. Eagle

Wild Tales - This is the highest grossing film in Argentinian history I think I read. It should be named 6 ****ed Up Tales You Feel Guilty for Enjoying But Enjoy Anyway. All center around a person or two forgo all social restraints in a trying situation and let themselves do whatever the hell they want. It was nominated for best foreign film Oscar but didn't get wide release in the US until after 2014. Any detail of each of the stories will take away from the enjoyment of the film, so I won't disclose any. I'd even say don't watch the trailer. Eagle

For the most part, it was good. Did not like the way they try to wrap it up at the end. Kind of "hokey" ending.

Midnight Cowboy - par.  Acting was great, but the movie was a bit weird and a downer.  My wife and I were checking out Oscar winners for Best Picture and neither of us had seen this.

I give Whiplash a birdie. Juuuuuuust missed out an an eagle. Really liked the plot (though there were some stretches were I'd say certain characters completely disappeared), the acting was great, liked the ending, and it wasn't crazy long.

I went to a movie with my wife tonight. We don't really see eye to eye when it comes to cinema. She suggested we go see McFarland. I thought, well, it's a Disney flick. But it has Kevin Costner. Glad to say I enjoyed it very much. I'll give it a tap in birdie.

Foxcatcher gets a par from me. Great acting, interesting story but it was very creepy to watch.

Whiplash , birdie. Even though I don't know anything about jazz or tempo it was an awesome movie, especially the ending.

    • I visited the PGA Superstore again today. Once again I messed around with the LAB putters. There was another customer there and this guy was totally sold on them. He walked away with one. Anyhow, this guy told me all about them. ... Pretty much stuff that we've already covered in this thread. I did mention to him that I wasn't impressed with the feel. To which he told me you have to try one with the upgraded shaft. So, I did. I have to say the feel was better with the upgraded shaft. Still not the best feeling putter out there, but clearly better than the standard shaft. The feel is also improved (in my opinion) by going with a more traditional grip instead of the forward leaning one. They also had one of the DF3's in blue. Which of course would be my favorite. The DF3 in blue with the upgraded shaft started to scratch the 600 dollar mark.  Once again, I came away thinking that Tour Edge is the way to go. They actually had a face balanced model for $99.99. I have to say it "felt" to my hands much better. Every time I go and test LAB putters I come away thinking more people should buy the Tour Edge putters. Just one man's opinion. BTW - I also tried the Odyssey face-balanced putter. It was okay.  Anyway, my experimenting with the LAB putters is probably over. Not sure when I'll replace my current gamer, but when I do, I don't think it will be with a LAB putter even though it does come in blue. 😜
    • Day 80 - 2024-12-19 Tested out the Garmin R50 for a little while. It seemed to give pretty good numbers.
    • Day 10: 12/19/2024 Had another range session today bringing my new PPJ swing thought to the range. I'm hitting more and more good ones. Right now it's all block training so I get in some streaks where I'm getting the timing right and have several really good shots in a row. I realize I'll need to eventually work in some random training, but I'm not ready for that yet.  As of now, practice is a lot of fun, because I can see results and I feel like I'm making progress.  There will probably be very few range sessions over the next week or so. I plan to do a lot of mirror work and hit balls in the garage net.  Once again, I also visited the PGA super store and putted around with several putters. ... just for kicks.
    • Yeah, that's what I am suggesting OP check. If he does not have a grip issue then great. It's not unheard of grip issues causing duck hooks. Anyway I don't have a horse in the race. Good luck to the OP.
    • I too fought the dastardly low duck hook something awful this year - as you say it is a round killer, absolutely demoralizing.  I've golfed seriously for 14 years and this just crept in this year - CONSISTENTLY, never ever had to deal with it before.   Like you, it only affects my driver, not hybrids/irons.   So I fought it all year and spent alot of time trying everything under the sun to fix it.   At end of season, after an incredible amount of work, I did fix it.   It turned out to be a simple fix - it is a grip issue (for me).    I always set up with my driver with club head lag like the rest of my clubs.   My fix was to set up straight to the ball - NO LAG (no shaft lean).   What this does is slightly rotate the grip in your hands ... automatically, You won't have to intentionally change anything with your grip.   It will feel really weird, but lock in the grip with no shaft lean / clubhead lag & swing normally.   Its pure f'n magic - completely fixed my low short duck hook without any other change in setup or swing, ball position, ball height, etc.  Back to hitting nice high straight balls, even a tad of fade sometimes, which i'm fine with.   Grip still feels really strange & I have to ingrain it in my muscle memory over the winter indoors, but can't argue with the cnosistent results the last 7 or 8 rounds of the season.... absolutely mind blowing what a simple little change can do.
