Is it bad that every time I see this topic at the top that I read it as "Winter Dispersion Thread"? No dispersion here, only depression. Hoping that next weekend will be playable. It's been 10 days since I've played.

Ahhh Thanksgiving weather! It’s 81 here.

I remember my first and only Christmas in Florida.  It was depressing.  Pink yard flamingos decorated with Christmas lights and it was hot!  Though I did end up spending two Christmas's in Hawaii.

I was out with an idiopathic disease for 3.5 years. Grow a pair, you wimps!!! 🤣

And yes, I’m going to play this annoying “I was out for X years” card on here til it’s worn to shreds so get ready for that 😜

Oh yea and since I’m technically an annoying golfer again, lemme give you guys some unsolicited advice. This is a great opportunity to eat your optimal diet and to get into the gym or rehab if you have some nagging issue like tennis elbow or something. April is really just right around the corner and what better way to kick that off than to be physically ready to go on day one? 💪😀

I have a pair! They are just really, really cold!

Yep! That will shut things down big time!

I have to agree with you! I am retired and have a Medicare Advantage plan that gives me free access to the local YMCA! So, why did I not take advantage of that last Winter? Pure laziness would be my guess. I have a trashed right knee due to ACL reconstruction surgery, Lately, if I stretch, it feels like my arms will fall off my shoulders! I need to do something.

It’s here today.  Wasn’t thinking the season would be over but it is.  8” overnight, couple more today and another 6 coming tonite.  Crap.

Listening to the forecast and my wife says, “ what kind of math is that?”  They said total of 6-10 inches when all is said and done.  We had 8 at 11 pm last night and a couple more this morning.  Today another 3 and tonite into tomorrow another 6”....

That's Meteorological Math! Around here we do it differently. When we get 2" of snow, they say we got 4"!  They don't call it "Storm Team" weather for nothing! Why can't it be Sunshine Team?

Looks like this weekend will be snowed out again.

It's getting to be like a year or two ago, when it snowed almost every weekend to ruin golf.

Fresh powder snow for snowboarding.  So it's not all that bad.

Yikes, that's tough. Time to focus on your golf-related fitness goals I suppose. Shoveling snow must be good exercise. Winter is my favorite season for golf because a tiny bit of cold (into the 50's) and a little precipitation scare-away the crowds. Short days are the worst part - no after-work play.

I typically get burned out on golf by the end of the season and don't mind hanging up the clubs in October/November (and thus I don't play a lot of late-season rounds), but this is the part of the winter where I'm itching to get back out there.

Jamo... you start the itch early!  You do realize Winter doesn't start for 9 more days. ☺️

So you had to be the bearer of bad news.... Do you guys even have enough bad weather to call it a winter depression?

We mostly have rain and dreary and soggy... well-hit drives plug and back up a foot.  But generally, one can play golf through the winter here in the Pacific Northwest.  When we get snow it melts within a week.  When the temps drop into the high 20"s, f**k it... I still play.  5 layers.

    • I do rest my driver on the ground. In fact, I tap my driver to make sure the head is sitting on solid ground.  I have an odd setup for my driver. If anyone were to watch me from behind, they’d think I am setting up for a practice swing because the ball and my club head are nowhere near each other!
    • I have golf trips to Hawaii every year and I fly with Alaska Air. I pack EVERYTHING  into the golf bag so I don’t have to check another bag in. So far no issues. I lock my bag with a TSA approved lock and they always open and rearrange my things. And I always pack to the limit of 50lbs!
    • I believe the issue with distance is small and easily addressed.  Here are my thoughts: Let's say in the not too distant future the PGA tour is made up of guys that look more like long drive competitors.  Big tall muscular athletes that instead of going to the MLB or NFL see a more viable future in golf with distance being at the forefront.   There will still be your sharp shooters that can hit a 7 iron with the same accuracy as some of the bombers hit a wedge but they will be much more rare. When this is the case, they might have to build new longer golf courses that suit these super athletes or expand the existing ones in length.  Why is this a problem?  You only need enough courses to provide a year's worth of weekend tournament play.  These courses can have a much larger gap in the tee blocks so amateur short hitters can still play the courses if they want to see what a golf course played by the big boys feels like.  All the other golf courses in existence can remain the same because as previously mentioned they will still suit >99% of the golfing population.  If you are in the <1% of the golfing population who can hit 340+ yard drives while keeping the ball in play most of the time, then yeah, you are going to over power a lot of old golf courses, congratulations.  If you get really good maybe you can make the PGA Tour and play the big boy courses. A lot of the old history rich courses are going to become obsolete to these new super athletes.  So the tour can do one of two things.  Stop playing there because times have changed and it is what it is.  Or they are treated as separate events with a different set of rules (equipment restrictions).
    • No they wouldn't..lol. But that was entertaining.
    • Haven't been keeping up with posting in this thread so here are my scores the past month. Been in a slump since about mid Jan, starting to come out of it. Part of it is also how hard the course is playing this time of year, not much grass on the fairways, greens are firm and fast and really tough to get it up and down off the dormant bermuda. Good news is my handicap is going up 👍
