It was 1° when I dropped my kiddo off at school today at almost 9am.

In previous months they'd have a two-hour delay on such a day (kids waiting for the bus could get frostbite or whatever), but my wife thinks they're almost desensitized to it now. :P

This is what I meant a few pages back when I said we here in Massachusetts don't get the extreme cold. I can count on one hand the amount of times we've had a high of less than 0˚F this year, and it's been a pretty darn cold season.

You should be good. Supposed to warm up into the positives in a few weeks.

The vacant field across the street from the building I work in is still covered in ice and snow, but more weeds and long dead grass are starting to show up sticking up out of the remaining snow pack.  When I can walk across the field and onto the adjacent golf course and find a few lost balls, then I will know that Spring has arrived and that the courses should slowly begin to open for play again.

Supposed to be mid-high 60's here Thu. Getting better each week. My guess by mid month bad days with be infrequent.

Very glad there was no measurable snow in Philly this morning. My elbow is just coming around and I didn't want another round of shoveling.

Ouch! That might even be too cold to ski.

Hmmmm??? Might ?  I say it IS too cold to ski.

Call me a wimp, but I don't like to ski below 20 *F.  Even then it has to be calm and no wind whatsoever.  And preferably sunny!

Spring cannot come to NY soon enough.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Now you're just bragging... 51 is excellent!

Weird spring like snow here last night. Very wet big flakes that froze into a crust when temps dropped. Had to scrape my windows with a metal blade I used to remove old glued down carpet with this morning. Will be gone by days end with the high in the mid 50's later. May sneak into low 70's tomorrow, though the forecast seems to change every minute depending on who is reporting it.

I dislike you Dave.  We are commiserating. You are bragging.

Lol sorry. No matter how nice it gets here the courses are in poor shape until late April maybe even mid May. Tempting as it will be tomorrow I won't be out there. Maybe Sun but doubtful. The busiest and slowest I've ever seen courses is during the late winter, early spring. It's the rush that brings out everyone and their dog. I've been out enough that I've already tired of 3 putting holes I play well do to shaggy greens. I've got a lesson this Sat, that's enough for me. The happiest creatures here will be my dogs, I can finally pick up the you know what.

    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
