What club do you use for 50-80 yards in?

A lot depends on the situation. If I'm middle of the fairway, and pin is middle of green, I might try to carry and run a lower degree wedge up the front of the green. If pin is back, less loft more run and vice verse. If I'm playing from rough and pin is tucked, I am going to TRY to be more patient and play a SW to middle of green. I waste too many strokes trying to be pretty from inside 80 yards.

A missed green from inside 80 yards (assuming you don't follow that up with an up-and-down) is a wasted stroke, same as a hazard ball or a 3-putt. Equally frustrating!!!

I usually go from 7i to my 54 wedge depending on pin placement If I have downhill lie or ball in divot or tight pin placement then I use the LW

Mostly my 58* Vokey, I can bring it in low with spin for the 65 yards and in.

47, 52 or 57 for me.  More often than not the 57 though.  I don't like the i20's for finesse shots, so I would use any of the edel wedges depending on the situation.

Mostly 54 degree, sometimes I'll utilize my 60 but need to practice with it more to be comfortable. I rarely utilize a bumb and run, but probably should do so more often.

Partial 60˚ for me unless I've got overhanging branches and have to hit a partial knock down or punch.  Am pretty effective with this shot and there's rarely huge wind where I play and my full swing is still very mediocre, so dialing in more variety on the short shots isn't a top priority for practice time.  Been mixing in a lower spinny 54˚ sometimes recently to try to start slowly expanding my options, but I like that more in the 40-60 yard range.  60-80 is always a 60˚ still.

I agree. I was in love with my 61 degree for the longest time, but was making too many errors with it. Now, I probably only use it once or twice a round as NEEDED (usually hit around 7-9 greens). So much more room for error with my 56, or even my 52.

It really depends on the pin position and what's around the green. I would hit anything from a 60* wedge to an 8 iron.

I always hit my 60 degree wedge from 80 yards and in. Those feel shots are always the hardest, so being able to focus on dialing in 1 club is something I have always practiced, rather than using different clubs.

Half a 50 wedge or 54 wedge. Don't use my 60 for too many full shots.

Interesting this question came up. I have been having a go at a "punch and roll" type shot. Or the bump n run as more commonly called. If there is nothing between me and the hole other than grass I have been using my 5 hybrid with some success. There are variables of course but it can work. Other than that I use my tri-bounce Tour Edge 56.

70-75 I hit a 3/4 54*.  Less than that I use a 58* and pitching motion.  I'd like to learn to use bump and run better.

From 50 - 80 yards is a partial swing with the 54* SW. The trajectory is more controlled than what I have been seeing from the LW with the full swing.

here is my thought on it..

I know i hit my PW in the 105 to 120 yd range..

I know i can hit my 52 wedge a solid 90 yards... maybe a lil bit more

I know i can hit my 56 wedge in the 50 to 80 yd range..

I know i can hit my 60 wedge a solid 50 yards...

So obviously i'd grab my 56 wedge..  But if i am hitting up hill, i might grab my 52 wedge... and it depends on how windy it is..

obviously this coming spring i am going to work and getting more distance out of my wedges...   would be nice to be able to hit my 52 wedge 100+ yards...

I use a 60° almost exclusively for that yardage. Certain situations might require a lower flight/loft but I love hitting it and feel comfortable with the club.

Depends on the shot I want.

Lets say the green is sloping away from me, I would hit my 58 degree higher than normal and try to land it softer

If I have tons of room, I might flight one lower and let it run a bit more

If its soft out, I will probably try to fly a higher trajectory shot and take some spin off the ball so the ball doesn't zip back.

If its really hard out, I could always take a 9 iron and hit a low runner up the middle.

Lots of options. Usually for me, its a full pitching motion shot with sandwedge.
