I used to keep my ball marker on my hat*, on one of those magnetized little clips. LPGA players keep their ball marker there fairly often.

Yet no PGA Tour players do this, and even the guys you play with are highly unlikely to do it.

Why is this? Is it somehow "unmanly"? Cuz believe me, there are a lot more "unmanly" things many golfers will do.

* FWIW I stopped doing it because the TST ball markers are a little too big and they're also, duh, non-magnetic. :) I liked having the ball marker on my hat. Titleist, for one, even made hats with built-in magnets for awhile.

I bought a glove specifically for the magnetized ball marker on it. I used to keep one in my pocket but I've lost so many doing that *including my TST one from the outting :censored: *... As far as why I don't have one on a hat clip, well I don't always wear a hat anymore. I used to but after having to wear a hard hat 40+ hours a week for a couple years I'm not much of a hat wearer anymore. I've also noticed a lot of people seem to just use a tee or divot repair tool to mark their ball.

Never had one of those hat clip ball markers. I just throw them in my pocket.

Every hat I own has a hat clip.  This way I never forget a marker and always know where it is.

I keep my ball marker (sticks on the end of my divot repair tool... magnets, how do they work?) in my pocket.

I'd like to get a clip and keep it on my hat because I don't like fishing around in my pocket trying to find the marker... amongst a couple of golf balls and maybe a tee or two. It goes in my right pocket and I wear a glove on my right hand... there's a loss of dexterity there.

I know what you're thinking... put it in your other pocket. Nah. Can't. I just don't do it that way... it'll throw me off balance and won't feel right.

Oh, and I'm not worried about what the PGA pros do... I'm not one of them... and if I were, I'd be setting a trend by wearing one on a hat.

I absolutely love mine. I am a Titans fan and that's what my ball marker is. $5 for the hat clip and marker and it is truly one of my favorite things I take to the course with me. I did notice PGA pros don't use them. Maybe the weight throws off their perfect swings, lol.

I usually use wooden ball makers (when I'm not using the TST ones), so no magnets for me. I have a weird thing about not liking small metal things. Ball markers fall under that.

I have a couple of clips on a few hats. If I don't wear one of those hats, I will put a coin in the opposite pocket where I keep my change with my repair tool. I DO have a tool/marker combo that I will use on occasion. I like to use the clip because, in summer, I will use two gloves if it's particularly sticky out. The tab on the glove will catch on the pocket, so the clip is easier. I haven't used a snap from a glove in a dogs age- mostly because any of the gloves I get don't have them.

I use TST one now.  I also use a coin from Barbados or Brazil or some other place I've been.  I do have a Mizuno one for my hat, but I always forgot to put it on my hat.

I use a man "hole cover" as my friends call it. It's about the size of a poker chip but it's a metal medallion that my brother-in-law who is a cop/swat member gave me from a tactics training class he attended. So it's way to heavy to put on a hat......

I use to use a TST one but since taking an Aimpoint class I don't use a ball marker because I one-putt. B-)

FTW!!!

Except, how do you clean your ball before you make that putt?? :-P

I imagine the women started doing it because their fashion styles effectively prohibited them from having usable pockets, and it was borne out of necessity.  Then it became trendy and even girls with pockets did it.  Mens fashions still don't come without pockets, so no reason to go that route.

The only reason I don't do it is because I tried for awhile and then kept forgetting to switch the clip to the hat I was wearing that day, or I'd sometimes even forget and drop the thing in my pocket during a round.  Now I'm organized;  front right pocket is 3 or 4 tees, front left is repair tool and 2 markers (and ball when I'm marked and in between holes), back right is aimpoint chart/yardage book, back left is glove while putting. :)

Pocket, it's a coin from my birth year. A  lucky penny with a "lucky" surround with symbols and things. Came from a casino back in the day. It also shaped like a horseshoe and snugs around the ball, kind of handy for lining up putts. Looks like one bottom right.

When i wear a hat with magnetic spot i use that one. Other wise i have a pitch repair tool that has one. For a back up emergency i carry a couple of dimes in the bag. This way i am never out of luck with no ball mark

It varies. It used to be a divot tool/ball marker clipped onto my hat, but I lost it and just use the one on my glove now.

    • Day 17 - Indoors practice. Some small setup changes and then working on hands path.
    • Yeah, negative PCC days are more likely to be counted in the best 8, but the PCC decreases the downward impact of these scores, as it increases your posted differential.  As for the conditions, it really is funny how the scores posted don't always reflect what seem like tough conditions.   Its clear that you thrive in difficult conditions.
    • I guess someone decided to do more work for little benefit then.  I might be the lucky one then. I have a +3 and a +1 on my counted scores.
    • I've only seen one positive PCC since it began, a +3 during a tournament on a tough, firm course with the wind blowing at least 30 mph. A scratch golfer got so frustrated he pulled out after 9. Sadly, the +3 did nothing for me as I was a good 10-12 strokes above the score counting. Currently 3 of my last 7 scores have a negative PCC. Of course, all 3 of those are in my best eight. I'm puzzled, as the wind was blowing pretty good on at least two of those rounds.
    • It changed to the best 8 of the last 20, in the 2020 changes.  When I attended a Handicapping Workshop in 2020, we were told that they anticipated that the PCC would apply in about 10% of the rounds.  That's about what I see now, maybe slightly more often since the algorithm was tweaked not long ago.  And remember, the PCC will adjust MOST of the scores on a given day towards the mean.  With a positive PCC (more high scores), most players scores wouldn't be in the best 8/20 even with the PCC, so the impact is nothing, although the few players who had a good day will see the impact on their HI increased.   I believe it will be very rare that a player has even two scores in their best 8 with any kind of PCC.
