That was very impressive.   207 yard 7 iron, 149 yard sand wedge, 267 3 iron, you sir are a beast!  (in the nicest sense of the word).   I'm jealous that you were playing in December!

To be fair, all of those were with the wind at my back.

Played first 18 hole of the year round today. Conditions were very wet with all the rain overnight and this morning.

Drove the ball well off the tee. Irons were not great. Short game was rusty and putting was not good.

Other than all that, the weather was good for February.

Played in my first tournament of the year this past Saturday. Weather was great. This is the only course in our area that over seeds fairways, greens, tee boxes and around the fringe. Other than the greens still being dormant and the course wet it was in good shape.

I decided this year to move up a flight and play with the young dudes (49 and under). They play from one tee back from the old guys. I won enough in the senior flight over the last few years so I’ll see if I can win against the limber backs. Plus I might be playing in an event later this year that I need to get prepared for. 😉

I shot 41-41 82. Did not hit it well off the tee. I had 8 putts from 5-9 feet and made one. The short game was giving myself decent looks just couldn’t convert.

It was good to get the first tournament out of the way. Looking forward to the next one and hopefully will get more practice in if the rain holds off.

Even par (72) I somehow played an entire round of golf without getting up and down one time. I missed 4 greens, bogeyed all four holes. Hit my second shot hole high in two on all the par 5's, never got up and down for birdie. Struck the ball really well, just couldn't get the short game and putter going.

This is the best time of year for distance, everything is nice and dry and we get some roll. Once summer comes around they keep the place really wet.

Played a practice round for our company golf league last night.

Shot 39 from the back tees. 1 birdie and 3 bogey's.

Course was wet but I'm not going to complain when many of my golfing brethren still have snow on their courses.  Hit it decent off the tee. Greens are very fast and can get away from you. Missed a couple of short ones that bounced in several directions.

28 ft birdie putt on hole 1 is a nice way to start the day!

Thank you sir!

It's always nice to get one there especially with the next two 200 yard par threes coming up.

Pretty good for my first round in March. A couple of stupid 3 putts to end the round, but I'm fairly pleased overall. Long game is in decent shape.

Wow what a round for me! 17.2 differential (my lowest in quite awhile now) and drove the ball farther than I have ever have. And on a flat course! My swing feels awkward (due to the changes my instructor has me working on), but I like the results so far. I will enjoy this round and keep working on my "feels" and positions.

First round of the year. Course was wet, greens were punched, and I played like crap. Long game sucked, short game sucked, putting sucked. That about sums it all up.

It rained like crazy last night and the course was a swamp. Played better today, though. Still having contact issues - some thin and chunky shots, but mostly hitting off the toe. Like, really far off the toe. Driver was in play today but mostly sucked. Short game was much better - I remembered a feel from last year that worked well. Even putt better today too, but still need to recalibrate my AimPoint feels because something is a little off. Greens still haven't healed from aerating so weird breaks could have been due to that.

I also hit a bunch of trees today which was annoying.

On a beautiful sunny 75 degree day this was brutal for my first round of the year.

Shot a 134.  No GIRs, no pars, 9 penalty strokes, topped a bunch of balls, and didn't hit one approach shot on the green.

Guess it's good to get this one out of the way early?

    • Fair   My uneducated thought: the big miss is the penalty area. If you want to optimize score, missing into the bunker (likely 5) is better than missing right into the penalty (possible 6). With that, your strategy seems sound and if you hit a committed shot, you get a bunker 5% of the time, take your medicine and hopefully get a putt for par but accept bogey. You may find yourself in a penalty situation 2-3% of the time and accept the associated outcome. The vast majority of the time though you are giving yourself a good approach shot into the green.
