Animated and emphatic doesn't work with most police - it certainly didn't work with Michael Smith or Eric Garner, did it? When given an order by a law enforcement officer, comply and sort it out in court. People don't win fights with police.

If the moderators are OK with us taking a detour into criminal procedure, I absolutely love discussing that sort of stuff and will happily join in. I just know the site is particular about straying too far afield of the thread's original conceit.

In the example given by @dfreuter415 , I don't think the cops had just cause to search them. I would have said no.

This incident happened in 1968, and back in the "old days" there was never a thought about not letting the police search the car, especially when we had nothing to hide.

I have no issues with people smoking weed.  I use to smoke in college and high school.  I would still partake if my job didn't drug test.  It would never even cross my mind to smoke in front of complete strangers much less when there is a young child there as well.

Obviously way off topic, but if you'll humor me ... With cops, you need to show them respect and cooperate with them as long as they are reasonable. The problems come when they overstep themselves. Be respectful, but don't let them intimidate you and trample your rights either. Most of the police I've dealt with are reasonable, but there are always exceptions. In the example given by @dfreuter415 , I don't think the cops had just cause to search them. I would have said no.

I don't know about the state laws in which this incident took place but as in Florida the only just cause a police officer needs is for he/she to smell marijuana.

I've also sensed a total disregard for the fact (if indeed this incident even took place) that smoking weed is in fact illegal in whatever state this incident took place according to the OP saying that it " is legal where we're from". Whether or not the guys needed to go to jail I don't really know but they still broke a law and most definitely were idiots for lighting up in front of a stranger.

I think your senses are wrong. Pretty sure everyone has realized that.

Or maybe you just haven't read the thread? There have been many post eluding the idea that the OP should have minded his own business.

Many post have also tried to make the issue about moral right and wrong rather than an issue about legally right or wrong..

I've never seen anyone smoke pot on the course.  Not sure I've ever smelled pot on any course.  I have not smoked pot golfing.  Hope this helps.

That is good.  If we played together I would be using it and you would never know.  And that is how it should be.

One of the big issues is the pervasive and long lasting odor of pot - it seems as bad or even worse than tobacco.  That is going to rapidly disappear as marijuana legalization spreads and more  users, medical and otherwise, become aware of the advantages of vaping and eating.  Both are way healthier, smell free, and more efficient..

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Yup.  I play regularly with a guy who smokes (and sometimes vapes) weed, and more often than not I never even notice when he does it.

Funny thing is, I'd be irritated to play with someone who was smoking it because of the smell.  I wouldn't yap at the guy though, I'd try to convert him to vaping.  LOL

    • Day 125 12-15 Half swings with flow drill. Focused on rhythm, loading trail side then getting to lead side correctly. Hit a few foam balls but mostly drilling without ball.
    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
