I'm planning on switching to a new driver at some point in the next year and it's been 2 years since I got mine through a set. Want a proper one with lower loft and a stiffer shaft.

I answered 1 -2 years since I maintain two bags, one I keep at the home club and one for away rounds.   I'll usually buy a new driver for the home bag every year and the one from the home bag gets moved to the away bag.

If it wasn't for some TST related fortune, I'd still be using the 910 D3 I bought back in 2011.  Prior to that I had a 975D that I bought in 1998-ish.

Factor in that I have upgraded a couple of times, and I'll just vote 2-4 years.

Just got fitted last year. Won't be replacing it for at least 5-10 years.

Six drivers in 12 years, four of them being Callaways. But I'm guessing my current driver sticks around a bit longer than some of my previous sticks.

My most frequently swapped club. Usually a global golf bargain buy from a season or two before. One day I'll just get fitted and stop the madness..,

I've had a new driver just about every year since I've been at TST. So, because the question doesn't specifically ask how often I buy a new driver, I'll say every year.

2-4 years for me. I'm on my third driver in 7 years.

I haven't bought a new-as-in-new driver, ever. I bought my current driver in 2010. After I get an Edel putter (or before, if I don't find a convenient fitter that I'll be comfortable with), that's priority #1 to replace.

I've got to write reviews ... so at least once every 1-2, depending on the perceived changes in technology and how it fits me.

I've played for about 18 years now, and I'm on driver #4. Started with a Wilson, then a TaylorMade Bubble Burner, then a Cleveland Launcher, and now a Ping G15. I demo other drivers here and there, but haven't found anything better (70% of the problems I have off the tee have nothing to do with the club anyway).

I've changed drivers 4 times over the last 12 years. Only one of those was due to choice. I had two drivers break (one crown and one shaft) and the third was stolen out of the trunk of my car. If it weren't for extenuating circumstances, I'd probably be changing drivers every 5+ years.

I like buying last years drivers at a discount. But I'm a firm believer that it's the swing and not the clubs. I probably do it to piss off my wife more than anything.

I picked 1-2 years but will probably keep my current driver a while. Definitely a driver Ho.

Been golfing for six years, have a 09 Burner, 2010 Burner Super Fast, Had a Cleveland XLS, gave it to a playing partner, Nike Sumo str8fit, traded it in, that sucker was too heavy. Picked up the Nike Covert, gave it to the wife. Currently gaming a Nike Covert Tour.

Similar to my answer in the sister "putter" thread, I am on my 5th driver in 6 years + 1/2 dozen driver experiments.  Hopefully, my new driver will last me more than a few years. If I must, I will look at changing the shaft only.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
