  1. 1. Who will be higher up the leader-board going into the weekend.

    • Jordan Spieth
      22
    • Rory McIlroy
      14

Damn Jordan's girlfriend is hot. She's 18, right? Don't want to feel like a creep.

As for who will shoot better, I say Jordan mostly because I think Rory may be a bit worn out after last week. As good as Rory played last week, if it were a stroke play event, Spieth would have probably ended up winning. My only concern with Jordan is the pairing. Rory seems to be "hungry" right now and I think wants to show everyone he's still #1. Jordan may be a bit starstruck yet. We'll see.

I don't yet see that.  I suspect Rory is still waiting for a real rival to show up.  It keeps changing every couple months.  He'd probably really like it.  Jordan is next on the list, but he has to hang around longer than a season.

Hope so - would be nice to see two people as decent as these seem to be and nearly the same age - then a rivalry would have some legs.

I voted for Spieth in this one. Rory was awesome this past weekend, but he also played 7 rounds in 5 days and had a birthday Monday. I think he'll be in the top 20 or so going into the weekend and will end up in the top 10, but I think Spieth will be in contention from the start and is my pick to win this weekend. I hope they both play great and finish 1-2. That's what's best for golf right now!

They are both fun to watch.  I picked Jordan because, with absolutely no data, Rory tends to have his worst day on Friday.  Jordan is usually good the first three days.

I voted Rory because I'm a McIlroy homer. :-P On any given day it's a toss up between them, but if they are both bringing their A game Rory comes out on top. Speith's A game is spectacular, but Rory's A game is otherworldly.

Wouldn't -18 at the masters be considered otherworldly? I'll go with Jordan I'm not a Rory fan.

Fair point and I'll admit it was pretty impressive. Rory didn't bring his best to that tournament. May have been a different Sunday for Speith if he was paired with a red hot Rory on the final day or he may have kept it together and won anyway, who knows. Just to be clear, I REALLY like Speith too.

Depends on how you look at it. Clearly Augusta was playing easier this year. They got a good amount of rain and the greens were soft.

Rory shot a -12 with two mediocre first rounds. Since Tigers -18 in 1997, -12 would win you this tournament 11 out of the last 18 times, not including 3 ties (-12 was winning score 3 times)

Look at it this way, when Tiger shot a -18 in 1997 the next closest guy was Tom Kite at -6. The highest score for the guy who made the cut was +15 in 1997 compared to +9 this year. There was 10 players between -6 and -18 in this years masters. The whole field played this course easy even compared to last year. So, no it wasn't otherworldy because of how easy Augusta played this year compared to previous years. I would say Spieth had one out of this world round with that 64. Besides that he only shot -4 over the weekend.

WHO GOES LOWER??

Jordan & Rory are paired up for the first two days, who will be lower by the weekend?

Not sure if it's just he angle from the picture or not but Rory seems to have more definition in his upper body.  Rory is a pretty sick gym rat.

I voted Rory because I'm a McIlroy homer.

I'm a big fan of Rory, too.  Besides Phil and Tiger, generally speaking, I'll root for him.

Is it too late to change my prediction?

I bet mods have ways... :-D

I wanted Rory to do better, so I'm happy. But yeah I thought for sure Spieth would have a good day.

To be fair though, I did say first TWO rounds, we have another day!

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
