The picture doesn't really do it justice. The ball was a solid foot and a half above my feet. As I stood in the bunker. I ended up hitting it about 6 or 7 feet into the bunker. I did get a bogey sand save from there, so pretty good result all things considered.

If I had to hit that shot…the ball would cheerfully go rolling down that street to the left in the picture.

If that was your lie it wouldn’t belong in this topic.

From yesterday's round. Approach to the green was a little long, and my ball was sitting on the back fringe. Large pile of coyote shit between the hole and my ball. The putt was right to left breaking so luckily my line was maybe 2-3 feet to the right of the turd, and there wasn't much chance of rolling into it, unless I hit a terribly offline putt, or got unlucky with a deflection off a bump in the fringe (which is quite beat up where my ball came to rest).

Picture doesn't show it well but the ball is almost completely below the level of the sand, and in the face of the bunker on a steep upslope with a super awkward stance. For some reason this bunker had a lot of new sand built up against the side where my ball landed, at least 4-6” more built up than the rest of the bunker. Took me one swing to get out of the fried egg lie. Almost stayed out of the bunker but rolled back in still very close to the lip. Second swing to get into the rough just out of the bunker. One more swing to get on the green, and then a 1-putt for double bogey.

I would have done just the same, played it unsuccessfully, and then kick myself for not taking Unplayable Ball relief in the first place.

Love the footprint left there 18" to the right of your ball... (I know it wasn't you)

I don't have one to share yet...but I like thinking about yours.

There are all sorts of risks no matter which option you choose, and I would have accepted I'm making at least bogey and would be trying to avoid triple. So I would be trying to get on the green in no more than 2, but give myself a chance of getting on in 1 if I'm lucky.

Even chipping backwards, to avoid the risks of the tree AND the pond, still leaves you with a little shot over a bunker.

I think I would have hit toward the bunker and tried to get it to run through the bunker...maybe punch intentionally off the toe or hooded, sort of so it has a chance to scuttle through the sand. Hitting toward the water is just scary because it's easy to hit little shots thin.

Not sure this is as bad as some of the others on this thread. I had a plugged lie in a very wet greenside bunker on 17 today.

I was able to knock this out and actually get it to a very makeable distance. I missed the putt though and was happy to settle with a bogey.

I started the day with a 300 yard drive… right behind a tree:

92B82068-FAC0-498F-AC0B-5863DEAF0421.jpeg

The green, not pictured, is straight through the tree. Had to chip that out about 45° right onto the fairway.

Closed the day (almost) with another bomb on 17, right behind another tree:

0DE29863-87D4-470C-8796-2DAAA6D5E6CA.jpeg

Managed to hit a 6i chip and run just short of the green past the no carts sign, ended up parring the hole.

A playing partner said to me, “If you move that back I won’t say anything.” To which I responded, “If I don’t try to hit this shot I won’t learn anything.” 😃

Today, I had the luck to push some (3-4 😛) shots into trees and have them not hit anything but a few leaves.

Then on the 18th hole (9th for the 9 hole round), I got tree karma. After blasting a drive through the fairway, my ball ended up against the lone tree on the right side of the fairway. That tree in the distance is just right of the green, about 30-40 yard short of the green.

I had this beauty of a lie on Saturday. Had to chip it out to the right with a 6i, away from the green. Not pictured is the tree branch I had to duck under to hit my shot.

    • So hit the😝 irons crooked AND play layup golf?? Hahaha.. no thanks. I would rather stay home. 😊
    • First - glad to see these popping up again. Now to the topic at hand - I would rather be option 1.  If I know how far it's going (I mean a yard or two) I can always play to the wider parts of the fairway and/or the green and still do reasonably well.  Now if I could just really hit the "number" that well.
    • Day 2 (10 Mar 25) - Long day of driving to dr appt with son.  Thankfully got in one of my fave putting drills (two ball side by side) - the goal to have both balls come off the putter face equally by having them come off the putter face as close to the same time as possible.  First few rolls - the toe was leading the way as that ball flew off the face.  By the end of the drill both balls were basically equal off the face, rolling to within a couple of inches of each other.  Nice drill of focusing on squaring the face.  BTW - I was using the old Odyssey DF992.
    • Day 161 - 2025-03-10 Got a decent, long session in. Focused mostly on the backswing feels, and moved on toward the end of the four hours (not all hitting balls, I installed a motion sensing light switch in there too, and worked with a student over FaceTime for a bit) on the downswing feel.
    • Day 31: 3/10/25 Backswing drills with the ProSendr. Reinforcing iron play from yesterday.
