He is currently in the lead of a tournament he is in and he plays Edel irons that are ALL 37.5" long.  This is basically seven iron length.  Watch until the end of the video and take a look at his very upright swing as well.

Interesting stuff -- that Edel putter is a wild one-off.

Talk about custom fit!

with all his clubs.

Saw his name mentioned on the 1irongolf.com website, didn't realize he was still in college? His irons are all the same length. I opted to have 5-PW at 37.25 and 52/56/60 at 35.5 inches.

So i wonder if this will bring about a change in how people look at the length of each of their irons....

It might if they want to swing how he does.  His woods appear to be longer so I'm curious how his swing changes to accommodate the added length and why that's different from irons.  I'd also think that on his lower lofted irons (3,4,5,6) that the lofts have to be jacked to compensate for the shorter shaft lengths otherwise he'd be giving up some distance with them.

Not a new idea... been around for quite some time. I've thought about it only because it means one swing and less to think about. He probably has a bit of variation in the lie angles but not much. A bit more yardage for the wedge end and a bit less on the long iron end. Again, variations in loft may make up for some of that, but most pro's would have the same tweaks anyway.

Not for me, I don't have the one plane swing though. I use my single length irons with a classic two plane setup.

Sweet looking Edel wedges and putter.  Very unique set makeup and swing.  Looks like it is working quite nicely for him.

I've never seen a golfer play ( and win) with all their irons 37.5 inches long either.

I'm confused here? Whose irons were all the same length?

The SMU guy that won the NCAA individual championship. He has edel wedges and an edel putter and all his irons/wedges are the same length. His name is Bryson De something

And his irons aren't numbered, they just have the lofts printed on them. That seems like a good idea to me, make it easier to compare clubs and prevent manufacturers from gaming distances.

I'm not sure on the lengths though, I assume there's a valid reason that loft and length move in opposite directions for a standard set of clubs but then it also makes sense that hitting the same length club would improve consistency then loft would change the distance on each club.

Hmmm. Ok. I've heard of this concept, but in the whats in his bag part it just said cavity back Edel irons. When I searched for those clubs, they were all different length irons. I didn't see the part of the article where his clubs are all the same length?

    • LIV golf was pretty close to me in 2023, at the same course that hosted the 2023 Senior PGA.  I didn't go to either one.  I do know a few people who went to the LIV event, and they said it was pretty well attended and pretty well run.  If I had free tickets, I might show up, but I'd probably have to drive 10 miles to park to get a shuttle to come back to within 5 miles of my house.
    • As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go.  I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
    • I would definitely buy tickets and go watch a round or two.
