Does Trump deserve to lose his seat at the table of world golf?

Just announced, PGA Of America pulled the Grand Slam Of Golf from Trump L.A. Statement issued by the PGA of America :

Quote:
PGA of America Statement regarding PGA Grand Slam of Golf

The PGA of America met with Donald J. Trump yesterday and the parties mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of all not to conduct the 2015 PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Trump National -- Los Angeles.  The PGA of America is in the process of exploring options, including a venue for its annual PGA Junior League Golf Championship, and will comment further at the appropriate time.

Quote:
That's Global Golf Post editor Mike Purkey’s take in this week’s issue , taking an unusually strong stance for the normally conservative publication. Purkey is suggesting golf’s governing bodies get out of their contracts with Trump owned courses because Trump “deserves to lose his seat at the table of world golf.”

Sure, why not?  He's a loon.

I wonder what the chances are of the Grand Slam trying to stick to the general area and, say, moving down here to Pelican Hill???

Yes.  In my opinion, Trump has completely lost his nut.  His behavior -- both in his speeches and on twitter -- shows that he's not someone you want representing your business.

I have no problem with cutting ties with Trump, he's a complete bozo.  This would mean taking Doral off the schedule too, as well as finding a new home for the 2017 Senior PGA, currently scheduled for our local Trump course in northern Virginia.  I wouldn't have a problem with re-opening relations after a few years, but I'd bet that Trump would never consider going back.

The Donald will tell you,

"I am BIGGER than golf!"

I await the formation of the DTGA.

He needs to go back on his meds, and if he doesn't have any, then bring in the guys with the strait jackets as the Donald sings...

They're coming to take me away Ha Ha

They're coming to take me away ho ho he he ha ha

to Trump National where life is beautiful all the time, and

I'll be happy to see those nice young caddies in their clean white knickers

reading manicured bent grass greens for my pure putting pleasure

You thought I was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said the poor should maintain my

greens, not play them ... not even the middle class can afford my green fees. You know you laughed, I heard you

laugh, You laughed, you laughed and laughed and then you left,

But now you know I'm utterly mad.

They're coming to take me away!

Yes, for now. I look at it this way- everybody, once they serve their time in the doghouse deserves a second chance. He is apologizing for nothing. Not backing off at all so he deserves the doghouse. Forever seems to be a long time for a non-criminal offense. Provided he changes his tune and repents with actions, I, the lord, no less, would grant him mercy.

Chances are it won't matter as it seems this monkey knows to dig only in one direction.

PGA would benefit from maximum distance from him, at least for now - I dunno, maybe 5-10 years...

I voted no, no matter how much of a nut job I think he is. Maybe they should until he's out of the Presidential Race and he shouldn't be around long. His statements are misguided and idiotic but last I checked this isn't the United States of the Thought Police. I know many people who share his views as well as many like me who think he is certifiably crazy but last I checked this isn't against the law, at least not yet.

No doubt, he has the legal right to make whatever buffoonish statements he chooses to make, and he should face no LEGAL prosecution for them.  Similarly, they should not be a legal basis to deny him his right to run for office.  However, we all have the right to choose to associate (or not) with someone.  Our choice of association reflects upon each of us, and the actions of our friends reflect on us as well as on them.  To me, continued association with anyone who makes similar statements, as loudly and unapologetically as Donald has made his, would reflect poorly on the PGA.   I believe the PGA should make their choice NOT to associate with him for the forseeable future.

I'm not sure that the PGA Tour not holding a tournament at one of his courses equates to " golf dumping Donald Trump". He's a powerful, wealthy businessman and he can, and will, continue to have a significant impact on golf through his interest in course acquisition, design, and construction, whether anyone likes it or not if he chooses to do so. I also think that even though I don't particularly care for some of what he says, and his own brand of arrogance, he, his money, and his love of the game is good for golf. Just as I think that for all his foibles, Tiger is good for golf too.

No, but it is a strong start. Wouldn't you say?

If he chooses to do so? Yes, but choices of others will matter as much. Try clapping with one hand.

Exactly what DT keeps telling us whenever he gets access to the mike, as if golf NEEDS him. A stretch IMO, a huge stretch. May be the other way around. People with good business sense or sense in general may not want to hang him forever but certainly would know not to associate with this mess. The polarity is so extreme that there is no way to associate with him and not be looked at as not residing in the same realm of thought process.

DT does not have monopoly. There are options. Certainly no lack of courses or resorts around.

"Golf" is so big, that even the PGA Tour is a relative drop in the bucket in terms of how much influence they can actually have on The Donald's participation in the myriad opportunities that exist under the "golf" umbrella. Does golf "need" him? Of course not. Golf doesn't "need" Tiger either. But golf benefits from them both, even though they're both polarizing.

Fair point and I concede that there should not be a finality because of what one says and thinks. What someone DOES has far greater impact. I believe in time people will forgive. But as of now, he will simply burn whatever individual entity he touches, PGA or whoever. Golf as a whole is still a sum of its entities, entities who recognize this for protecting a very core set of beliefs, which affects all they do. They will and should stay away from him at least till the wind changes directions, whenever that is.

There are a lot of people who like and support Trump, and even agree with many of his statements that others find distasteful. Personal opinions of his statements aside, the fact that someone is polarizing doesn't necessarily mean that he has a net bad impact to the game.

He's an idiot that's for sure. And according to the reports this was a mutual decision, I'm sure there are lots of contracts that will have to be broken.

Sure,  that would be a good engraving for his tombstone, but let's see if we have businesses out there that can hang a sign that says 'Donald Trump and his Views on Mexicans Welcome' and see how they do - which is exactly what associating with him would do - NOW, TODAY, not in 20-30 years from now when it all said and done. The current context matters. Greatly.

Bad move.

EDIT: BTW, what is a lot of people % wise? There is a good reason why the population is so thin on the polar extremes.

I am going against the grain here. I say "no". By dropping Trump they are also saying that illegal immigration is OK, and so is the crime some of those folks bring with them. Trump spoke about "illegal" immigration. Unfortunately some media outlets are leaving out the word "illegal" in their reports about what he spoke about. Yahoo has done it a few times when reporting on this subject.

Also the PGA is saying breaking the law is OK, and please keep spending your money on us and the rest of the golf industry that they represent.

Last poll I saw Trumps potus run is gaining in popularity, which doesn't mean squat because like other candidates do, he probably paid for that poll.
