So I been playing with a buddy who is a couple decades older then I am, and in his bag he's got a 3, 5, 7, and 9 wood, where as I only have a 3 wood and 2 hybrid. It seems like hybrids are starting to fill the roles of the higher woods but I've noticed that if you stated playing decades ago your more likely to love the woods over hybrids or long irons. So how many woods do you have in your bag, and why?

Normally just a 5 wood (i take it we arent classing driver as a wood?)

Not sure why the driver shouldn't be counted. Not everyone carries a driver. I voted for 2, a driver and a 4 wood.

I was thinking about fairway woods never seen anyone with out a driver, I seen people with 2 drivers but never none, that's odd.

Up until 4 years ago, I never carried a driver.  I couldn't hit w/o it going as far right as it would forward!

From the thread title, I thought you might be inquiring who still has some actual wooden "woods" laying around in their garage. In any case, I carry a driver, 3W & 5W. I carried a 3H for a while (along with 1 & 3 W) but when I left that set at my mother in laws and rebuilt, I found an inexpensive demo 5W that I really like. It has a 3W shaft and is the perfect club for me on a driveable par 4 I have at my home course. I end up using it off the tee some at several local courses and is a bit easier to hit from the fairway than my 3W (which I will hit off the tee and occasionally off the fairway in the right conditions).

I carry a driver and 3 wood - the driver I can get good distance off the tee and the 3 wood is for carrying my towel in a convenient spot since I am much better with the 2 hybrid than the 3 wood.  I use to carry the 1, 4, 7, and 9 woods but I now carry the 2 through 6 hybrid and this 63 year is getting as much distance as 15 years ago (I was never a bomber) with more consistency.

I voted two. Driver + 3-wood

Not sure if a hybrid should be considered a wood or not. It has the hollow body construction.

I carry two: a driver and 4W. Though ATM the 4W is out for a 2W, the answer is still two. :-)

Maybe driver is technically a wood, but it's really not, wood is short for fairway wood, drivers are not designed to hit off the fairway.

I only carry a 3W, I think woods have become a dying club for good reasons, one of which is how hard they are to control shot shapes compared to a nice GI long iron or even a hybrid.
