I'm older than you, (I went to a Beatles concert in 1966) so my frame of reference is vastly different than yours. woods, without peer in the world of golf for a decade, became a figure to be emulated, ...young golfers the world over idolized him for his talent and accomplishments..he became a role model. All that ended when wood's real character was exposed. Not one of the gents I play with from the senior tees is willing to give woods a pass for his transgressions, not one...and not one of us has "a childlike view of the world"...when you achieve old age, you will look at things, and people quite differently.

My childlike point of view? Why because I don't hold professional athletes to a higher standard than everyone else? He's human after all. Trust me when I say that even when I'm playing the senior tees I won't judge other people who I have no personal relationship with for transgressions that don't affect my life whatsoever.

There are a ton of very ignorant and hypocritical old people too. My dad is a 55 year old 12 year old. Appeal to authority fallacy.

Why does a tournament thread have to sink into a Tiger sux/Tiger is great morass? Homers and haters are equally obnoxious. Let's focus on the tournament which is surprisingly interesting thanks to Tiger's solid play for 3 days. I'll be watching tomorrow to see if Tiger can get #80 on the same course Snead got his 80th. That would be purty damn cool.

A bet that has no endgame is hereby rendered null and void.

Nobody's doing a great job lag putting. Those greens are weird… people are barely hitting 20 footers and they're sliding five feet past the hole.

Careful, here come the "drive for show putt for dough" guys...lol

I don't buy that anymore at all, I lose most of my strokes on wayward drives (stymied, bad rough, just plain lost, etc), and can two putt 90% of the time.
Lag putting today was not great. He made most all the putts coming back, but when you keep leaving yourself 5-10 footers coming back, one of them is not going to go in.
Nobody's doing a great job lag putting. Those greens are weird… people are barely hitting 20 footers and they're sliding five feet past the hole.

we were listening on the radio yesterday, and that sure seems to be true... on shots into the green, as soon as the commentator said "and that stops above the hole", we knew if the first putt didn't go in, there was going to be some meat left on the bone... didn't seem like anyone ended up with a tap in after a downhill first putt... "acceptable" performance by tiger yesterday... score wasn't as good as i would have liked (seemed like he was above the hole on virtually every green), but it wasn't the saturday disaster we have become used to... and the big stick was better than it has been in a long time... should be a fun day today... a bunch of guys within reach, and the two leaders have to back up 62's....

Stop with the off topic rants please. I'm nearly as old as you and I do not go on off topic rants and certainly don't hold your views, so don't speak for we "old people."

Everyone get back on topic. If you want to rant on Tiger Woods, there are other threads for this.  Also, calling him 'Eldrick" is not a sign of respect, so grow up.

I'm pulling for Tiger to get a W. He's battled back and has not given up despite some really rough patches. He looks more focused and in the zone this week than we've seen in a long time. He'll have to overcome one other mental block he seems to have - winning from behind. Going to enjoy watching this Sunday finish.

Think about this, TW so far this week has been very close to shooting 60 ish this week, he has been just off on numerous putts. Yes he has to keep making The ones hes making. Others have gone low, I think the stars align today for Tiger to shoot a very low score.

Think about this, you may have just put a Jinx on Eldrick.

You're kidding, right? He's putted like a witch this week. You're right though, it's an easy track and he can definitely go low here. I think he wins it going away. There's just not enough talent in the field to catch him on this course and I don't think Gore has the fortitude to hang on. Hope I'm wrong though.

Mental block?

Tiger has won from behind many times - just not in a major.  For exactly the last 18 holes.  Even in majors he has come from behind, but he did it too soon or too late to "count".  I seem to remember a birdie putt on the 72nd hole to "come from behind" and get into a playoff with Rocco a few years ago.

But it IS kind of funny that the "can't win from behind"meme is so strong while the real story is the incredible closing ability the guy had.  It would be interesting to compare the winning percentage of every guy holding or tied for the lead going into the 4th round in every event since Tiger turned pro, with Tiger's record in events in which he was leading or tied for the lead going into the 4th round.

I'd also guess that Tiger has more come from behind victories than all but a very very few of the current guys have total victories.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Blame Dan Jenkins for that. dude is the grand marshal of Tiger-bashing.
