Agreed. This is my point exactly.

Interesting.  The only "purposes" that have gotten mocked and made fun of here are the ones involving God.

Sounds like there are a lot of "purposes" that do not include being tolerant of others' beliefs.

The only post to get any response at all was @Abu3baid 's and it got 10 negative responses of varying degrees of negativity, with one supportive.  No one else's state purpose was commented on at all by anyone else to any degree.  Yet almost one-third of the posts in this thread mock, to one degree or another, his answer.

Like I said, interesting.

I agree making fun was not so nice but hard not respond to in some fashion when the opposing belief is in such sharp contrast. Absolutes leave nothing to ponderance.

In your opinion, what does mocking/making light of the belief imply?

Depends on the context. Tolerating a belief does not mean it can never be spoken of negatively or that it can't be spoken of in jest. Mocking something certainly demonstrates insensitivity, like I said, but it's a bit of a leap to go from insensitive to intolerant. You still haven't demonstrated that.
What if mocking racial comments are made? Is that OK?
Context. I mock Chinese people all the time and it's ok. Not because I am Chinese, but because it's not meant to be derogatory. If I've offended anyone in the past, it's because I'm a dick, not because I don't like who you are or what you believe in. But should they take offense?

Does it matter what others say to a believer?

If they were a true believer, you'd think they would not care because it would not matter.

Everyone has their own path.

And I wold not assume that other posters were making light of the beliefs, but surprised at the post.

I'm pretty hard to offend, and it takes a great deal of pushing to the point that someone has to explicitly accuse/incite me of something before I react. Yet, I still found it somewhat disturbing that people made fun of his beliefs.

The purpose of this thread is to ask what each of us thinks is the purpose of life, right? He answered truthfully, and was made fun of by many posters, and you two find it over the top for someone else to bring it up?

I really don't give a crap what people think of me and/or my personal beliefs, but I also hate seeing someone bullied like this.

So far, the winner has been, "Leave the planet a little better"

Also, thinking about since we probably have an atheist president.  Which famous people were in the closet atheists?  My guess Reagan, Milton Friedman, Bernie Sanders, Bill Clinton,

I don't belive in any higher powers, so I don't belive there is any general meaning. I always say: The meaning of life is to give life meaning. Which is highly individual. Some want 5 kids and spend time that way, others would rather not have kids, but spend their days travelling the world. Could we avoid the religion vs non-religion in this thread? Let those who believe do so and accept their choices.

No, I'd be fine with ridding the world of all political correctness but until that happens religious groups should get the same consideration as special interest groups which is what they are in reality these days.

I take issue that if one were to mock a gay or transgender person the entire site would put that person on blast but because it was someone who is deeply religious we called it "light joking"

Insensitive, Intolerant, call it whatever.  It still boils down to the fact that it was not nice.  And, only the religious belief was singled out.

I think you can get away with it because you are Chinese.

How would you feel if you had posted something in this thread, about a Chinese belief about "the meaning of life", and a bunch of non-Chinese made mocking comments about it?

If I've offended anyone in the past, it's because I'm a dick, not because I don't like who you are or what you believe in.

Typically if I am a dick to someone it is because I don't like them.  Probably because of who they are, and maybe what they believe in (many times plays a part in who they are).

Now I'm looking at the counter! What are you talking about? The "V" in Chive?

That thing is obviously an enlarge sculpture of the V formed by Nixon's fingers when he boarded Marine One. Isn't it obvious?

Ha ha. Chive is written on the mirror in what appears to be lipstick. The V is just a V, it's not a "toy".
