Would you rather win a major championship or the $10 Million FedEx Cup?

Why?

You think this guy would trade the FedEx Cup for a green jacket or Claret Jug?

Major, not even close. If it's about the money for you, a major will yield far more than $10M down the road. But most of these guys aren't in it for the money. It's about history, legacy, being the best and a Fed Ex Cup championship doesn't compare to a major in those terms.

Definitely a major.  When you think of the amount of money you need to earn just to have a tour card I think money starts to become less of an equation.  Lots of expenses involved with touring for sure but at that level who wouldn't rather bag a Major and the average of $1.5M or more for the win and have your named etched in history?

No one talks about the "best player to never win the Fedex Cup"  or "So-and-so is a phenomenal player, he just needs to add the Fedex Cup to his resume."

Winning the Fedex Cup is certainly a tremendous achievement but the history is in the Majors.

Major without question ... 4 in a row would be even better ... would not complain if they were not in a calendar year ... The Fedex just seems to me to be contrived to have viewers interested in fall time frame ... seems very marketing to me.

I don't think any of the last 4 have won majors yet ... Horschel, Stenson, Sneeeedeker, and Haas.  You could pose the question to all of them.  I would bet they'd all trade it for a major, but who knows.  Because ...

You have to also consider the flip side.  We should also ask Trevor Immelman, Lucas Glover, and YE Yang.  They may have a different take.  I'd add Rich Beem, Shaun Micheel, Ben Curtis, and Todd Hamilton to this list as well, but they won majors prior to the Cup even existing.

Paul Lawrie too. Either side of the coin, you're as good as the last great thing you did.

FedEx Cup wins are not given special consideration to qualify for the HOF at this time, so beyond the money they don't carry any more weight than a non-major tournament.

It depends what you value more...glory, or money. A major winner is a major winner always. I don't think there's nearly as much stock in winning the Fed Ex cup...aside from the huge money, nobody really cares nearly to the same level.

Personally, I'd rather win a major. Any of them.

There was an article in Golf Digest a few months back where the author stated that he, speaking for many tour pros, would prefer the Fed Ex Cup over The PGA Championship definitely, Open Champ probably, US Open maybe, but not the Masters. The $10m was the primary reason. I always thought the argument was a little flimsy.

I voted Major just because they have always held above all other tournaments.

That being said, I do think other tournaments are harder to win. In terms of achievements, I think the Fed-Ex playoff tournaments are tougher to win because of the quality of the field. I would claim that is a bigger achievement in terms of how difficult it is to win.

Does that make them more special, no because they don't have the historical attachment yet. The Fed-Ex Cup has only been around for 8 years.

Here is an interesting thought. Why not make the PGA Championship the Fed-Ex cup final. I think that would be cool to link the 4th major to the Fed Ex Cup tournament.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
