What'd You Shoot Today?

I shot a 44 from the tips. I struck the ball pretty bad but played great around the green. I got up and down 4 times including once out of a bunker. I parred both par 3s and both par 4s on the front. Not bad after starting with a triple! Oh and I think my 22.9 handicap may be comin down.

Shot an 81...nothing like choking away the 70's with a triple bogey on hole #10 and lipping out 2 Birdie putts for par...My goal for this year was to break into the 70's. I've been close posting a few 82's and now an 81. If I just keep at it I know I will get there eventually.

Played a different course than normal today.  A short course, but the greens were in such horrible condition that getting any approach shot to stop was impossible.  Putting on them was like putting through a minefield.  Still not a bad day, and pace of play was excellent, there were two in our group and we finished in 2.5 hours.

I played terribly, shot a 50 (par 33). It was the first time I went out and walked 9 holes and I picked a bad day to start doing it. It was ~95 degrees with 65% humidity and I was feeling it pretty quickly. I couldn't hit a fairway, still really struggling with the driver. I had a terrible time putting as well. My irons were pretty good but given I'm hitting out of the deep stuff every time, I couldn't hit GIRs either. Tough day but still enjoyed it. Shot a 3 over 75 today. Played pretty steady, but can't make many putts. Really enjoy my new woods. My new Clev XL270 is really easy to hit. May not be much longer than my old Nickent Evolver...maybe 7-10 yards on average. Just hit more fairways. And the RBZ 3 wood is simply amazing.

Shot a 93 on a tough course and windy conditions. My goal for the day was to break 90 on this course, and was looking good up through 16, but went to crap on last 2 holes, a tough par 5 and a pretty straightforward par 3 finishing hole. Went quad, triple and that was that :~(

Shot a 96 with a 51 on the back. Ugh. I didn't hit the ball great all day. I had a few okay shots including a birdie on a 125 yard par 3, Pw into the wind to 5 feet ;) I am playing again on Tuesday. I think I have an 89 or so in me right now. I putted pretty great today inside of 10'. The dude I played with gave me a good tip last time out, 70% weight on my left foot. It has done wonders for those 3-10 foot putts.

Played 9 nines at my home course.

Shot 40 / 38 / 38 .

The 1st 2 nine has some issue with putting speed and most of the putt were short ( due to early tee off at 6am and the greens are still wet ).

Had some errors but overall happy with the result , thanks to my new rangefinder.

Putting was lousy this weekend.  Shot an 86 on Friday with SIX 3 putts and four or five others that hit the hole but didn't go in.  Two chunked wedges, otherwise tee to green was pretty good.

Sunday was our club's annual individual net stroke tournament: I shot an 83 (net 71) with two 7's on the front (a triple and a double), both from bad short game.  Two 3 putt bogeys and several missed short birdie attempts.

Round 3: Had a pretty good day (yesterday) and shot an even 100 (50/50).  That is my best score thus far, although I have played at 3 different courses, I am moving in the right direction going from 117, 107, 100.  My previous best at this particular course was a 104.  I really wish I could have taken off 1 stroke just so I could say, I broke 100.  The ironic thing is, I think I could have easily been in the low-mid 90's....Took 2 penalty strokes off the tee, duffed a couple of shots, missed a couple easy putts, you guys know how it is. Also, not to mention, I took an 8 on the very first hole.  My putting was better than what it has been but I am still not totally comfortable with it.

Finished with 2 pars, 7 bogeys which is probably some sort of record for me.  I had a string of 4 consecutive bogeys which was cool. Shot of the day for me were 2 fold.  Hole #3, par 3 145 yards to a very elevated green, used a 7i and was able to stick it 6 feet from the hole.  Hole #13....had a chip in from the rough about 35 feet into the hole, hit the green and ran straight in the hole...too bad it was to save bogey.

Some stats...

Score - 100

Putts - 39

Fairways - 4/14

GIR - 2/18

2 Penalty strokes

This wasn't a full round, just 9 at the local par 3 (Virginia Golf Center, Clifton, VA), but it was my best round there so far and I feel like things are coming together.  I shot 31 with 6 GIR.  That was the best indicator that things are going in the right direction, seems that I was hitting greens including the 5th (202y) and the 6th (157y).  Short of the green on the 8th (182y), then chipped past and rolled off the green a little, and then (miracle) come back chip in for par :)  I was on with my tee shot for the 1st, 2nd, 4th (birdie!), 5th, 6th, 8th.

If you live in Northern VA and want to try out a challenging par3 course that is really well maintained and has an island green on it (84y 2nd) try out this course.  They just changed the name of the course to Clifton Ponds, the driving range is still called Virginia Golf Academy.  I always tell people that this is some of the most fun you can get in golf for $15.

Why do they call golf "golf"?  Because all the other four letter words were taken.

Today I played the best round I've ever played. I shot a 78 on a par 66. My previous best on this course was a 90 (6 weeks and 10 outings ago) and I even went out on Friday afternoon for 9 holes and shot a 50. Granted, on Friday was unbelievably hot and humid and it was the first time I'd carried my bag, it was still a 50. I started to get my driver back again today, which helped dramatically. I had 4 penalty shots throughout the day. I was happy that when I did have a penalty, I really cleaned it up well with solid iron shots and putts. Overall my irons were really good, my putting and chipping were much better than normal, and that really helped. I also used a GPS for the first time, and I couldn't be happier that I did. I was able to pull the right club consistently and on many of my approach or par 3 shots where I missed an opportunity for GIR, it wasn't because of the distance. I'll never play without it again. I checked my score after 9, which was the lowest 9 hole score I've had here or at a typical par 70-72. After 18, I was completely shocked when I discovered I had shot 38 on the back (par 33). I feel like I'm closing in on breaking 90 on one of my local par 72 courses. That will be another goal for this year. 89...par 71. My iron play was fantastic, though I gave a few shots away on the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th holes because my approach shots were all left of the hole, one was OB.

95 for me but could have been much better with 46 on the front nine (par 37) including a birdie then started the back with two pars and then it went 7, 7, 7 and all over.to finish with 49 (par 35). Why? a few lazy shots into bad positions. Focus!!
