What'd You Shoot Today?

78 on Chaska Town course.  Good back nine and good first 3 holes.  Finally took care of the 2nd and the 17th with regulation pars (both long par 4s that give me trouble on the 2nd shot).  Regulation par on the 18th in the dark - hit, and then walk up to where the ball 'should' be,,,,and it was there on all 3 shots....  Par on 9 after a crappy drive and mediocre 2nd -  which I usually duff the 3rd, this time a good approach.  Great finish.  Good driving all day.  Better GIR than last time.

no birdies, looks like the season is ending without a real bang, but some solid play.

93 and 88.  All in all a good weekend for me including a birdie in each round. I am pretty sure my index is about to drop some, and I am excited to see how much I can improve now that I have made it over a hurdle (driver is behaving) and I have a clear path to follow with my practices (partial shots with short irons and wedges).  I credit the advice from all of you at this site for the bulk of my education.

93 53-40

It’s a pretty easy course that is long but quite forgiving. 6600 yards. But the greens were brutal. I had 41 putts and we all had a bad putting day. Really fast, huge breaks, just something we are not used to.

On the back 9 I had 4 pars, 3 bogeys a double and a birdie. 3 single putts but still 2 triple putts!!

84, with back to back 42s, and 34 putts. Had birdies, pars, bogies, and a double bogey.

Best shot of the day was a 10'+/- putt for that double bogey.

Cold, north, gusty wind in the western part of the Vegas Valley  put a damper on my game. Had to wear warm clothing.

Had a ton of fun anyways.

Had the front 9 of my life today.  Started birdie, par, par, double bogey, par.  Through 8 I was +4 (including two penalty strokes) and then hit a bad tee shot on the 9th hole (hole 27), had to chip out, didn't concentrate enough and had to try and crazy draw shot which didn't draw and went into the woods and, after it was all said and done, carded a 9 on the hole and 46 on the front 9.

Back 9 started with a birdie but got very wild and with 4 penalty shots on the back and shot a 49.  Really disappointed because I really felt good at the start of the round and then my tee shots just started coming undone and wasn't able to correct it until the end of the round.  But two rounds in a row I've gotten two birdies and all time high in GIRs :).  Anyway, here's the round:

CR/SR: 72.5/123

Score: 95 (Started on hole 19)

GIR: 6/18 (33%)

Birdies: 2

Pars: 3

Bogeys: 5

DB: 7

Quintuple Bogey: 1

Well, today I shot 95 again but my ball striking was really off.  1 had 1 GIR and 4 penalty strokes.  However, I didn't really have any blow-up holes.   Three weeks ago I would have been happy as a pig in sh*t at shooting 95, today I was disappointed. :-$

Score: 95

CR/Slope 70.3/123

GIR: 1 (6%)

Pars: 2

Bogeys: 11

DB: 3

TB: 2

I've been away a couple of days, so it wasn't today, it was Thursday. The weather had been gorgeous and the yard work,  garden work, and housework was all done, and I was itching to get out. So, I called my buddy and left a voice mail. He called me back and said he was meeting his Son and BIL at a local course, tee time 1PM. Come on out.

I won't try to tell you that this is a hard course, but it has some challenging holes. What we like about it is its conditioning. It's about as close to a country club as we can find around here, and seniors can play for 15 bucks a round, w/cart on Mondays! When I got my first look at the course driving in I thought, "Ooh! The course looks really nice!" And it was. The fairways were tight and rolling, the rough was penal, and the greens were putting fast and true, with a lot of break.

I shot 37-40=77, my second time breaking 80 this season. And I've been threatening 80 quite a few times.

Shot a very solid 75 in less than ideal conditions (mid 40 degrees with a constant 20+ mph wind on a relatively tree-less, links style course)

Holed out from ~40 yards for a birdie, and hit a tee shot to the back fringe on a short par 4 for another birdie.

Putted really well, gained 1.2 strokes compared to scratch, and hit it pretty solid off the tee as well, gaining .60 strokes compared to scratch.

Great round yesterday. An even par 72. Started with a birdie on the first hole, followed by 3 pars, another birdie on the 5th hole, pars on 6 and 7, then bogeys on 8 and 9 for an even 36 for the front. I really wanted that 34. The back was 5 straight pars, then disaster as I chunked my driver into the weeds just ahead of the tee. Double bogey, but came back with a birdie on 16 and 17, and par on 18 for the 72.

Tee time today in about an hour. We'll see if I can repeat.

Got 18 in on the longer course on my local muni. 45+45 90. Two 7s, three 6s and the rest were better than that so I avoided my typical snowmen on this course. CR 67.9 SR 122 from the members (5900 yards). This was my 10th round that I have counted for handicap so it jumped from my best (16.0) to average of best 5 (19.7). Really happy with everything today except for putting, but the greens were rolling really quick. Watched a guy in the group in front of me miss an uphill putt 4 times, and have it roll back to his feet every time. Some of them were long of the hole as well. The last one he put right in the hole (10 ft or so). Found myself in the same spot when I got to the green and put my first one in knowing what was at stake.

    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
    • What has gone downhill? Have you been practicing properly, filming your swing, working on exactly what he suggested without straying? My thoughts are that your results/outcomes from a lesson a year ago probably aren't all that relevant anymore.  And carry distance is far more important than total distance. Total distance is going to vary significantly based on course conditions.
    • One thing that has helped me tremendously is to spray the club face with foot powder when I am on the range. Seeing ball impact can be quite helpful if you are hitting shots all over the place. It's not the cure all, but a good little thing to do on the range. The other thing, and I will forget to do it, is the pre-shot routine. Find me a spot a foot or so from the ball in-line with my target, take my stance, take the swing.  Sometimes you take a BS practice swing with no thought. Make it deliberate.  As far as swing thoughts. I have 3 check-points. First is set-up, Second is my take away, Third is my downswing. I cant explain what I think I just know in my mind. Its a feeling that I have that feels right and experience has shown that if I follow those 3 thoughts more than likely the outcome will be what I was looking for. Now, thinking about the feeling and executing it properly is a whole different thing, that;s why I practice, I used to be over a 20 handicap, I am down to a 15.1 in about a year.  I feel like its good progress. the goal is a 10 by the end of the year. If I make it great, if not, hey at least Im not in Gaza. LOL
