87 yesterday. I made so many 1 putts it was laughable.  But I’ll take it! 3 pars, 1 birdie, 2 doubles, 12 bogies

79 at Green Oaks GC in Y-Town.  One birdie but no other one-putts on the very bumpy slow greens.  Balance of my game was pretty good with a few really bad shots tossed in to make things interesting.

Epic match today! On the front 9 of a course that I’ve never played before, I shot 44! Played great golf for eight holes, par-bogey-bogey-bogey-bogey-bogey-bogey-birdie. Then made a triple on the last 🤮. We scored first place easily by 18 strokes! Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus, all matches between now and April 6 are cancelled. So every round I post between now and then are just my own rounds.

Shot the best 9 holes of my life today.

Shot a 37 (+1) with 6 pars, 2 bogeys and 1 birdie. When we started it was low 40s and overcast, which quickly turned to snow on the 3rd or 4th hole, and it was sticking on the greens for the last 3-4 holes. The birdie was a chip in from just off the back of the 7th green and the ball left a trail in the snow as it rolled on the green and into the hole.

Scoring that well in those conditions gives me a lot of confidence heading into this season, and one of my friends said that was by far the best he has ever seen me play.

Klineka... congrats on the 37.  You should pray for snow all the time.

Shot 92 today! Putting was excellent, despite the fact that we were putting on punched greens. Highlight of the day: hitting the par-5 ninth in two, leaving it about 8ft out. Unfortunately, I missed the eagle putt, but had a tap-in birdie. On the 18th, a par-3, my tee shot ended up on the back of the green, about ten feet out. The birdie putt stopped right on the lip. My brother played too, and he shot 64-73 for a 137. His putting was okay, but he topped several shots. Here’s my shot from the ninth:C835EBBE-B815-40A0-8D30-F237A625742D.thumb.jpeg.c6bec0261e5fd92577624a8d092e4242.jpeg

Today I shot a breezy 83 at Arroyo Del Oso here in ABQ. Weather was in the 50s, not too windy, hardly any clouds. I'm actually disappointed with my iron play lately, GameGolf says get better:image.thumb.png.942b7310047de67fa0765e025fb4ccae.pngtter:

90 at Woodlands East from the white tees, so 6150 yards or so.  That means that I am hitting a lot of approach wedges and flighted irons on approach shots. That scenario really cuts strokes for me, so yay.  I will take the 90, don't get me wrong.  But the greens on this course (and the West course) are nearly all very long and narrow on elevated greens.  It makes missing the approach left or right a very messy ordeal, and I do that a lot with the longer irons.

Played 9 yesterday evening shot 39. Took an 8 on one hole and finished the round with a birdie. I pulled an approach into the bunker left of the green, no problem, get it out and make the putt, Nope, flew the green into the other bunker on the right side. Ok, go over there, buried, I skull it out of the bunker across the green, rolls down into a collection area. Im fuming. Flop shot goes roughly 4 feet. Take a 7 iron to hop over the hump and roll. Didn't roll enough. 2 putts and I walk off with an 8. I almost fed my fed my Cleveland wedge to the dolphins.

Well, let's see. The last score I posted was a 75 on March 4. Since then I've shot a 79, 84, 89, 79, 73, 76, and a 77.

The new Mavrik irons arrived on Thursday, but we were in the middle of a tournament, so I decided not to try them out until Sunday. Yesterday (Sunday), I shot around 79 with them. I say around, because I hit a few balls on some holes to try different things. I have a match play this morning, so it will be the first time in competition with these irons.

Yesterday was a beautiful day in the Duke City. Overcast, temps in the mid 60s with a slight breeze. The scores were much better than Saturday! Played at Los Altos, and the course ratings means you have to shoot low scores just to move your handicap (69.3/114). I put up a 78, 7 bogeys, 1 birdie, 10 pars. Strokes gained was much improved from my round at Arroyo:image.thumb.png.7a98f944e9bdeceb31b95701e71a5150.png

Ok, so the Mavriks held up in competition. Shot a 76 today, with a double on the last hole, which wasn't an iron problem. 36-40, with 1 double, 2 bogeys, and 15 pars. No birdies....

I don't know what I shot yesterday or today. We're mostly just practicing on the course, playing some matches, etc.

Weird round over the weekend. Drove it great, hit a lot of solid irons and pitched fairly well. Putting is rarely my problem but I didn't make a single putt and three-putted six times. Should have shot in the 70's but,

73 on a par 71 course from a much shorter and less difficult set of tees than what we might play in the summer (66.0/115).  Struck the ball well and generally played like I hope for each time out.

Shot a 40 on my local par 29 9 hole course after work. For me 38 or better is a good round, so I was off a bit. Good news is, I am hitting solid shots and managing to stay with it when I have a bad shot. Lately I have been avoiding the big blowup holes. If I can just do that for a while my scoring will improve quite a bit.

    • Same here. Seems quite a few of my fundamentals had strayed and Erik had to get me back on track. It was kind of surprising how bad I had gotten off.
    • I would like to point out I was not complaining about hot summers;  rather, I enjoy them.  It's the coming cold cold winter I'm about to face that worries me.
    • From late 2022 until a few months ago, I barely played (maybe two dozen rounds, total, and only four rounds in 2024).  I had my first lesson in ages (Skillest, with Erik) and grip was part of it -- mine really did get into a bad spot, and I had to (and still have to) practice the new one.  It still feels odd, but that's a good thing when adjusting (otherwise I'm probably doing the previous).   I'm going back into the office for the first time since then and I'm tempted to take a small section of pipe, keep it in a desk drawer, and periodically take it out to practice my grip.
    • Great episode on GAPs. I agree 100%, this needs to be consistent. It is something you have complete control over to a high level of repeatability and precision. It is such low hanging fruit as well.  My own tendencies.  Grip - Can get too strong. I tend to not get much grip with my left pinky, and the grip can feel like it slips more into the palm. I mess around with grip size and tap wraps. I wonder if I need to get away from a big taper.  Stance - Use to be too far right. I noticed, for the first time ever, I was aiming too far left on the course last week. It was like 5-10 yards left of the target, not 20-30 yards right. Overcorrection. 🤣 It is getting better.  Posture - Way better now that I stretch and work on mobility. I could tell years ago that if I tried to keep my knees less bent, get more on the balls of my feet, I felt a stretch in my calves and hamstrings. Now, I don't, and it helps. I think people might avoid that stretch feeling because it might feel unnatural. I used to be head up as well, looking too much down the bridge of my nose. I still can catch myself doing that, especially on shorter irons. I think I have average ankle mobility. I do have to use elevated heels when I squat at the gym, or I tend to fall over forward.  I agree, if you are not practicing this then you can become lax. For about the entire first half of this season, I was just waltzing up to the ball without aiming. I still catch myself being lazing. I have to step back and actually aim. I think adding this into your practice sessions is easy. Just do it before ever rep at the range. Just make it a conscious effort on the course.  For the tee shot, the only time you can kind of use an alignment aid (other divot or maybe something is lying on the ground). I tend to use that to help me aim. I try to imagine a straight line that I align my body to.
