Playing with Someone Using Non-Conforming Equipment

Noticed that too. Kind of like the TM ads stating that you'll gain 20 yards. . .

 

Play "against" someone using non-conforming equipment? No point in that, anyone who needs that stuff doesn't stand a chance of beating me anyway.

Exactly what I think, with the exception of those senior golfers who used to be scratch or plus who are currently better chippers and putters than the average PGA.

I'd play with or against them, really it comes down to weather they can hit the shots or not, and non conforming equipment really isn't going to make probably any difference at all, its all just mental.

though it would be fun to show up at a league round with a hatchet, two hockey sticks, a baseball bat and a Game Improvement iron.  And then go to someone's bag and loudly start complaining about non-conforming grooves and a long putter.

I would play with someone who is using non-conforming clubs, however I wouldn't allow it in anything sanctioned or anything that potentially involved money coming out of my pocket.

I would have no problem playing with them in a casual round, but not for money or in a tournament. I would certainly report them if playing in a tournament. Gotta protect the field.

 It does not bother me either. In fact if you stop to think about it most companies try to get the COR on their drivers at 0.83. They send in their new offerings to have them certified as conforming. Yet when in production we all know the tolerances are not always dead on and anyone's driver could be illegal. They just would not know it. So you or others playing in a tournament may in fact may not be playing a conforming driver head.

Thats totally different than knowingly breaking the conformity rules.  If you somehow got a driver that was slightly thinner and didn't know it, hard to penalize.  Some guy playing with 16 clubs, or EXTRA Distance ball or something like that is a different story all together.

Agree with what many have already said. No problem with me unless it's in a tournament or we're playing for money. Even with a couple bucks on the line I might not care, I'm not going to feel "cheated" if the guy has the old grooves in his wedges, they're probably worn out anyway  

Tournaments are a different story, gotta protect the field.

According to the same article that promted me to start this thread, non conforming gear is becoming so popular in Japan they are starting tournaments soley for those using said gear. The percentage of no conforming clubs sold in Japan is still vety small depsite its popularity

I wondered when this would start, and don't really see a problem with that. Eventually , I think they will remove any artificial barriers to the sport. Physics already limits what COR and other factors can be improved. As long as we don't take potato cannons to the golf course and still use our own power, I see no issue.

Of course, I'm still having fun playing 20 year old equipment with conforming grooves and such. . .I am currently going through the steel shaft in drivers phase. . .

Agree with the vast majority here. I could not care less.

I am not one of those golfers who believes you need to play by the rules all the time and looks down on those that don't.

I play with lots of members who just enjoy the walk and the companionship.

So foot wedges, play OB as lateral, throw the ball out of the bunker if you can't get it out on the first try etc all good with me as long was you are enjoying yourself.

As for myself I follow all of the rules of golf to the best of my abilities (I'm sure that I mess up a drop or ruling on occasion) when I post my score for handicap purposes.

Maximum distance is only 200 yards. You'd need a 12 gauge version which would be noticeably louder than the 97 dB of the current driver.

I said no but would have said maybe if that were a choice.  If in a tournament I would not, if a casual round I would.  If there were money on the line or depending upon what the equipment was.  A buddy of mine has a 2 faced chipper he uses, although I have never seen him hit it left handed.  So I wouldn't object, unless it was a tournament.  On the other hand if he wanted to use a non conforming driver he could add 20 yards with and bet a beer I wouldn't do it.
