Like the "Best Putting", I checked my driving stats.  Admittedly "FIR" is not an especially important stat but I started keeping it decades ago so I just continue to track that number.  I am not wild off the tee but no one would label me an extremely accurate driver of the ball, either.

My best for 2015 (so far) was 92.3% or 12 of 13 on a par 71 track.  That is a fair step up from my typical 56% FIR.  I may have hit 100% at some point in the past but I can't recall.  The day I hit 12 of 13 I was really feeling relaxed and just felt where ever I aimed was the place the ball was going.    Nice feeling.

Anyone hit 100% this year?  What was your best so far?

Thanks for the reminder, I haven't looked at stats for some time.  It was good to order them all top to bottom and see which track best with my overall score,

Once each in the last 3 years I've hit 13 out of 14.  92.9%  Two of those rounds are very good scores.  But only one of those in my top 5 and that was also a good GIR round.  So I'd conclude that hitting fairways isn't my be stat to focus on today - unless it helps GIR, or missing FH is particularly penal.

But my personal best round ever, and only one under par, is, not surprisingly, my top GIR round 83.3 - I only missed 3 greens and got up and down on 2 when it was close to GIR.  In fact, my very best rounds (18 holes) are my best GIR rounds consistently.

I normally get 9 or 10 GIRs on a good day.  My scores get better DRAMATICALLY as that stat goes up.

Putts don't seem to help much.  I seem to avoid 3 putts for now.....It does seem to help a lot if I'm hitting FH and GIR well.  if not, it's a wash.

I track FH, GIR, Putts, and Penalties/Blowups - I think if I can make GIR much better, then putts will start to be more important (convert birdies more often...)

I can't answer as I don't keep track every round. However, I can answer that my best scoring round I only hit 6 of 13 fairways.

13 out of 14: I missed the second one a bit left.

My average FIR% this year is a bit down to 56%, but I know hardly ever miss right after fixing my swing. I just can't yet push myself to aim right enough to have the ball come back to the middle, so when I overdraw a bit, I am just left of the fairway.

Uhhhh… I can tell you easily that I averaged 53% of fairways hit. So… my best round would probably be something like 10/14 or so, maybe 11. Hitting the fairways is rarely a priority.

I had three league rounds in a row at 5/7, 71%. I only averaged 40% for the year so far though.

I played an alternate shot Ryder Cup tourney where I hit the first drive in a bunker and can't remember missing any other fairways.  The second day was a best ball format where I think I missed 3 fairways.  I remember a short par 4 where I popped up a 3W about 100 yards, but it still made the fairway. :)  I'm normally in the 9 to 10 range.

I have had quite a few 14/14 this year as our fairways are pretty wide and easy to hit especially if you are distance challenged as I am these days. 200-220 off the tee makes it pretty easy to hit the fairway unless you are very crooked too.

Best was 43%, the same round that I made the most GIR in: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/billchao/round/599491

Not surprised it was the same round because hitting more fairways for me means hitting less balls in trouble which gives me more looks at greens.

I only averaged 60.6% Fairways Hit for the year.   The most I hit in 2015 was 13/14=92.8%

With that said, I don't put a lot of weight in that because I've had many rounds where my FIR stats weren't very good, but the misses were small and I scored very well because of that.

I had either 6 or 7 fairways hit in every round this year (with one exception of hitting just 4 once). Pretty consistent.  No standout round at all for tee shots.

In "strokes gained" terms, I typically lose about 5 strokes to pros on my tee shots for a round. There was one round where I only lost 2.4 shots to pros, about a stroke better than the next best. That was a 7 FIR/6 GIR day, which is on the high end of my normal day, but the key was no OB penalties off the tee.

I usually have 1 or 2 penalties off the tee per round.

71% this year, and the round sucked because I hit the iron shots fat - how to turn a career long drive on a par 5 that left an 8 iron approach into a double bogey.

I forgot I played a round at the Innisbrook Copperhead course this year where I only used my 3W (broken driver shaft).  I missed one fairway all day.  If I would have had my driver I wouldn't be saying that. :)

Today I hit 11 of 14 and had bogey, par, birdie on the 3 that I missed.  I had to play the same 9 twice, so the round doesn't count in my book.  I met up with a nice guy and we had a great time.  was one over the first time around and 2 under the second time around.  Love my new "used" driver.  Still struggling with the flat stick.

    • Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.
    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
