I dont like the Butler Cabin that much. It should be outside in front of the fans. Err I mean gallery!

Agreed. Always makes for a sufficiently awkward conclusion. Especially this year

It always feels stuffy and forced. Maybe it is sincere for Nantz, but seems just a hair over the top.

Oh boy this is so awkward.

Spieth looks like someone just died.

Yeah, he's so out of it he almost fell over.

Clearly Jordan did not enjoy the ceremony - while it is the defending champ who does the presentation of the jacket maybe its time they have a backup in case the prior champ wants to beg off - how cool would it have been to have Nick Faldo present Willetts with the green jacket?

Don't think it helped Jordan to be paired with Smiley who shot 81 and was all over the place all day long - not to mention that Willetts had the good fortune to be paired with fellow Englishman Westwood which probably provided him with a less stress-full environment.

Still, as Jordan noted, he did push a number of shots to the right during the tournament and he just happened to do so at the worst time on 12.

Spoiler

:offtopic:

For The Leftovers watchers:

I was kind of hoping Willett would come into Butler cabin, chain smoking a cigarette and communicate only via writing on a notepad, but alas, not more all white clothing.

Spieth had 22 birdies. Willet had 13. Won by 3.

When George Archer was defending champ, he missed the cut and had to hang around not only for the final two rounds, but an 18-hole playoff as well.

Jordan's gonna need a good psychiatrist after this one. At least he has a super hot girlfriend to help console him (lucky bastard). But this one is gonna sting. Tough loss for him. But still in 5 majors he's gone 1st-1st-4th-2nd-2nd...and that 4th was one-shot out of a playoff. Not half bad.

Spieth and Greller made a huge mistake there on 12, though. Need to be aiming over that bunker left. If you mis-hit it, you hit in the bunker. The second mistake was playing it from the drop zone. That had flub written all over it. I was even telling my brother I wouldn't be surprised if he chunks that one. It's a tough shot. If he re-tees it, he can hit a full wedge or 9.

I disagree, gotta take the good with the bad. Unless the defending champ isn't actually present, in which case...

There are certain social situations in which you just grin and bear it; this was one such occasion for Mr. Spieth. A smile, and a pat on the back or handshake for the winner, wouldn't have killed him, would it?

Faldo would have been a fun choice, but I'm not sure Sir Nick is the perfect presenter of green jackets; even though it was in good humour, look on Youtube for the time he came down to Woosie's height (so to speak).

    • Day 65: did a stack session.
    • Day 272: 9/29/24 Putting through gates for about 30 minutes today.
    • Ok, that makes sense. I was trying to wrap my head around that concept when I was writing my post.
    • 78 today at Minnesott (36 front / 42 back) - a new first with an even par on the front.  A big day of up and downs for par.  Only 26 putts against 4 GIR and 5 nGIR.  Was a CPO (cart path only) day due to recent rains.  Overall game was on - until 18 where I was looking at having a first “no-sixes” and made a triple 7 (tee shot in the lake, 2nd tee in fairway, shot 4 approach to right of green pin high, shot 5 bogie on the green, long two putts for triple 7.  Still a solid round and new personal best.
    • I believe that 76 bpms is the tour average (or somewhere around that). I think that's from taking it back to impact. I'm not 100% sure of exactly how it works since a typical pendulum is already moving when it starts going back. The putter on the throughswing ideally would work pretty much exactly like a pendulum though. To get the exact same time period from starting the putter back to impact, you'll have to accelerate it a lot faster on a longer putt right at the beginning until it gets to the speed it needs to be to make the putter move the right distance. Probably all way too much to think about while actually hitting a putt, but bottom line is I agree entirely that a metronome is a good thing to use if you're working on your putting tempo. As to the split between backstroke and downstroke, the tour tempo lot said 2:1 is the ideal. 3:1 for full swing. 2:1 for short game and putting. Whenever I go on a SAM I am about 1.7:1 I think and I can't for the life of me get my backstroke to be slow enough to get it to 2:1. Ho hum. Last comment - if you do have a perfect pendulum putting stroke and you have the ball slightly forward of the center of your stance, then the putter should be just starting to rise again at impact and with the way that pendulum motion works, it should be very slightly decelerating at impact, which I believe someone may have suggested once 😛
