Type of Glove

17 members have voted

  1. 1. If you wear a glove, what type of glove do you wear?

    • Top quality all cabretta leather glove
    • Bargain all leather gloves
    • Cabretta leather palm and thumb, synthetic for the balance of the glove
      0
    • All synthetic, all weather type glove
    • Doesn't matter as long as it fits and is not expensive
    • Non-golf glove like baseball glove(s)
    • Something else, please describe

I am dating myself but when I first began wearing a golf glove, Velcro had not been invented (or at least it wasn't used in golf gloves).  The glove had a strap and snap on the back.  Presumably, all the gloves I used were leather.

Eventually synthetic materials were introduced.  While I still like all leather, the combo of leather on the palm/thumb and synthetic elsewhere also works.  It often fits better and stretches to fit snugger.  The feel of all synthetic still seems odd to me.  It is hard to shed 50+ years of routine.  I don't buy the top end all cabretta leather gloves and tend to bargain shop for gloves in groups of 2-4.

When I started playing, I used a Footjoy Weathersof because that's what my father gave me. I haven't used any other glove since.  I love the feel and the durability.  For Christmas, I received a few new gloves (I think Top Flite), but I can't get myself to use them.  I tend to build up my stock of Footjoy gloves whenever the sales happen, and usually I have enough to last me through a full season at any given time.  Perhaps I should consider being a little more open-minded.  I would be open to suggestions.

I am a 17 HCP and cannot afford a cheap glove since I tear them up quickly.  I play the Titleist Player's Glove and can get 15 - 20 rounds out of a single glove and usually replace it because I mishandled it a couple of times (stuffed in the bag wet, etc.).  Great fitting and feeling glove with plenty of tolerance for my grip and swing.

I have found that I spend less money by buying a better glove. For years, I used the Footjoy WeatherSof glove, but found that they would become hard and brittle relatively quickly. I now use the StaSof, which costs twice as much, but lasts much longer.

I don't take particularly good care of my gloves - I leave them in the trunk of the car, don't wash them, etc. so that may have contributed to the poor performance by the WeatherSof.

I've been using the Callaway 3-Pack from Costco.  Hard to beat the deal.

Same experience here but I take a little better care of the gloves. IMO The StaSof are definitely worth the uptick in price due to lasting longer. I have also been using of the Titleist gloves in the $17 to $20 range and see the same results.

For no apparent reason, the Titleist PermaSoft gloves last better than the FootJoy StaSoft gloves for me.

Bionic gloves with the knuckle padding. Love them. I don't play in tournaments or weekly competitions, and as such don't care about the rule. They're made of better leather and last longer. I've noticed no difference in feel between them and any other glove TBH. The main difference is that the other gloves stretch during a round. I have to change gloves at the turn. With these I don't.

I wear Spaulding baseball batting gloves. I get them in pairs for $12.99. (sometime for $5.99/pr when on clearance) A pair will last me about 30-40 rounds, plus all the practice sessions in between. About 3-4 months. I carry three pairs and switch them out every 6 holes depending on how much humidity is in the air.

Wearing two gloves is more of a health issue for me. They protect my hands from skin damage caused by the 100*F+ sun. For this same reason I prefer them in white.

And of course they do help with gripping my clubs. I even putt with them on.

I'm not even sure what brand/model glove I currently have is, but it's surprised me with it's durability. It's lasted longer than any other glove I'd bought previously, though I have to admit I've never been able to justify to myself purchasing anything more than $10 given the rate at which I had gone through previous ones.

Something else.  I've only worn gloves when it's cold and/or raining.  I'd also wear gloves if I had a blister or some sort of other hand injury but that hasn't happened yet.  The rest of the time, no gloves for me.

The gloves I've worn, Foot Joy Wintersof gloves:

My HDCP is higher, but I have the same sentiment.

I wear the BIONIC StableGrip, Men's Left (ML) Cadet. This glove is a bit thicker than others, so I can get through the season with four of these (two wear out by July, but the other two survive). Also I get better grip pressure.

Flashback: In 1988, a sporting goods store went out of business where I lived. A co-worker went to the clearance sale, and bought three boxes of left-handed handball gloves. Us golfers bought three or four each from him, and used them for golf. I had three that lasted me the entire season. Memories of the handball gloves is what made me try the StableGrips.
