All you guys who complain about slow old people - you'll be one of them some day. Remember that.

1 foot putt for a 72? The people I play with would say "that's good. Pick it up."

There is one hole I've hit a perfect 4H on that landed in exactly the right spot to bound up onto the center of the green. It had the perfect speed to make it. It hit a sprinkler head and ricocheted off to the left, down a steep hill into the woods. Instead of a birdie... I ended up with an 8.

Totally forgot about getting seriously hurt from a wayward ball. Lots of people, IME, not providing warning with a fore these days.

And 200 year old hungry alligators.

They have gators in NYC now? are they moving north to Boston?:~(

My fear is getting the hooks during a round. I know what is causing them and can usually recover, but that first one is usually very penal.

Whoever says they fear getting stuck behind old people has obviously never been stuck behind high school golf team practice.  Gee-whiz that was the most horrific display of slow play, poor etiquette and general obnoxiousness I've ever seen - and I'm mostly talking about the parents.

Things that have happened:

Falling down the stairs the morning of the start of a 3 day golf weekend to Michigan's premier public courses (Arcadia, Forest Dunes, ...), it was only a bruised elbow & strained wrist, some Aleve and a cold compress allowed me to play through it.

My game going to hell the two weeks before my scheduled invite to play Oakland Hills.

Bad weather in the Sandhills area on our golf outing - played 3 days in early October in rain & temps in the 30's-low 40's

Weather delays on flights to Cali to get to the Monterey Pennisula, luckily the first day was our fun courses day.

1) Injury. That's my #1 fear on the course. I have a "frozen shoulder" (left) acting up again, but it's under treatment - incoming shot and exercises. Right now on NSAIDs. I'm playing through the pain, but I'm modifying rules to avoid injuring aggravating things more. Hence, the reason I'm not keeping a handicap right now.

NSAIDs cause and contribute to long-term heart problems like congestive heart failure. They can also aggravate your heartburn and turn it into GERD. Try another type of painkiller, almost anything is better for you than NSAIDs.

This is temporary until I get an appointment with the orthopedist for a steroid injection.

Cool, I wish you well with your frozen shoulder, and hope you recover quickly. Hopefully you don't need an arthroscopy or rotator cuff repair. I recently learned the NSAIDs stuff from a seasoned cardiologist and was skeptical of him. When I looked it up, I saw he was totally right.

I recently had a hand injury that limited me to putting, so I putted for two months. It drastically improved my game!

As for my worst fear, it is unnecessarily injuring somebody else.

My first shot of my life was on a par 3, and I hit a hard line drive that was zooming at an elderly lady's head. Luckily, there was a tree in the way, and the ball bounced all the way back to my feet. My buddy told me to pick it up and we moved on.

More recently, a friend of mine who doesn't practice as much as he should was teeing off and hit the ball with the inside of the club, hitting a laser at our friend's occupied cart that was only 15-20 feet away. It hit the driver club in back of the cart, which fortunately prevented the ball from indenting our amigo's cranium.

Oddly enough, I'm okay with injuring myself. The only injury that scares me is the "golf cart over the ankle" injury, because it destroys your ankle. Read a study years ago which said this (besides slips and falls) was the most common type of golf injury, because it is caused by exiting the cart too early. Obviously, a golf cart can devastate one's ankle, and that type of injury takes forever to recover from.

Steroid injections are temporary too.  There's nothing wrong with NSAID's taken wisely of course. What else you gonna take, liver killing Tylenol?

On topic, my worst fear is a career ending injury, too.

Aspirin is an NSAID, but does not contribute to heart failure. It was not included in the list of harmful NSAIDS.

Working my butt off for two months and tweaking my elbow trying to reach a par 5 in two from the rough.  I can barely hold a club without cringing with pain!!! I will take slow play or even getting hit by a stray shot over being injured

Nothing beats this. Having had a minor back strain that's put me out for two weeks, I'd hate to have anything worse.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.
