I'd say it's close between the golf talk and instructional content, but ultimately I'd go with the instructional content.

My answer might be different from others, but I just enjoy talking about golf with other people. It's my passion, it's what I've devoted my life to, it's what I love second only to my family and friends, and it's what's almost always going to be on my mind.

I didn't figure your answer would be the instructional content :-P

more of a past time for me. I have a lot of it and it helps. I do enjoy the posts from most everyone and have picked up a jewel now and then. I've tried to participate also and hopefully I have contributed something every once in awhile. I do not get too excited over much of anything these days however, try not to take anything all that seriously. Its a good and worthwhile forum.

I voted  "being able to talk golf at any time with those who share our passion". I voted this for a few reasons.

  • I do not have a lot of friends that I play golf with, most of the time I play golf alone, or with random people I meet at the club when I get there.
  •  I am only 24 I would say it is very very very rare to ever find someone my age that enjoys the game of golf like I do. I used to live in NC and played with a lot of people my age, in the Harrisburg PA area I do not see a lot of younger players.
  • I am in the military so I move a lot, hard to meet people when you move every 4 years. I play a lot on military courses so people I meet at the course are always just passing through or leaving soon.

Its just really nice to have someone to talk to about the game and share the love for the game

Golf talk for the most part. With folks that act like adults rather than the 30-60 year old adolescents found on other sport/hobby sites

Speaking to like minded people. Its also nice to speak with you guys accross the pond. Even though you often taunt us with your nice weather and "year round golf" (for those of you in the sunnier states that is).

I enjoy talking about golf, pretty much all facets of golf.  I started here when I was looking at the travel and course design sections, but I read through a lot of the sections now.  I even contribute some (completely non-technical) thoughts in the swing and instruction areas.  As @chilepepper mentioned, most (not all) of the folks here treat each other with respect most of the time, and that's something of a rarity with online interactions these days.

It's a great hang out and discuss golf site for me.  There are a great bunch of people here who I enjoy interacting with.

For me it's the entertainment value of the various golf topics. I like to read, and TST has some decent material that satifies those reading needs.

It's the same with alot of other websites I frequent. I just like to read about stuff.

For me it's close between the golf talk and the instructional content.
However, I voted for the instrucional content because as a beginner I learnt more from this site than from my first instructor.

If I didn't get my inner golf out, my girlfriend would have to take the brunt of it. The trap is a relationship saver...and way cheaper than counseling. Plus, where else can you have your nose rubbed in your poor grammar in real time?

Ha ha ha... just the way you wrote that..:-))

For me it is instructional content. I feel like I learnt how to approach golf, golf swing on TST over last three years in a way that I could have learnt no where else other than my tris and tribs on the course. I have gone from hack who had been threatening for years to do better to actually becoming better in a very short period of time once I started living on TST grounds.

It is also hard not to pick video swing analysis but it certainly the closest of 2nds. Funny thing is my swing looks about 95% the same when compared to 2 years ago.

There are other golf forums out there, but TST is certainly the most welcoming to everyone who loves the game.  I see it as the every person's site where the discussions are civil, helpful, and most importantly, the egos are checked in at the door.

It is a tribute to Erik on how well this site fosters the acceptance of everyone; whether the person is playing hand-me-downs or has a collection of Scotty Cameron putters; shoots well over 100 or well under 80.  It what has made TST the place where I participate.

Firstly, I enjoy that the admins and moderators and such seem to have a general consensus that statistics are a front-runner when it comes to evaluating any area of golf as a whole. As an engineer, I appreciate this.

I like the data that I can find on this site. I don't always agree with how it's laid out but I believe the integrity is there, and a good purpose exists in it.

Secondly, I enjoy the fundamental swing instruction available in reading on this site (particularly the 5SK) and LSW. I don't care much for the more "advanced" swing thoughts/instructional stuff because it's a little too difficult to correctly interpret what folks are trying to get across. I prefer this stuff "in the field." Again, that doesn't make it bad or wrong, I'm sure it's good stuff.

Thirdly, there seems to be better people on these boards than on some of the others. Not as much elitism and the like.

In summary though, I like TST for golf data, people that like and talk about golf-related stuff, and learning about new golf stuff/opinions in general. Also, it's been very helpful in learning some of the Rules of Golf.
