He looked hot and tired towards the end. Maybe his tournament fitness isn't there yet. Looked good on the front though.

15 holes 3 under, 18 holes 1 over.  Sounds like lots of us where we are tired and mess up a hole or two at the end.  Speaks of physical conditioning and perhaps the mental side not quite being there.  In the past he would never have finished a round like that.  But still a decent round overall.  He still has it though.  Now looks like a decent player who can compete, not like the invincible one he once was.  Let us see how he progresses

What's in the bag

  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)
  • Golden Bear LD5.0 60* (regular)

I thought his swing looked good, smooth and relaxed, compared to when he really went after it.

-4 through 8 holes then +5 the last 10 holes....chalk that up to tournament rust

It will be interesting to see how much patience Tiger has with himself. He may have to play a lot of mediocre golf before his best game shows up.

I'd like to see him play well and push the younger players, see how they hold up against some Tiger pressure.

Isn't that what they call "old man finish"? Appropriately named. That's the last time I'll bring up getting on @colin007 :-D

I view this as a Victory! No withdrawal, no trunk slamming while grabbing the back, onlookers following a muted golfer wondering what the of the future.

Lol yes!! That's exactly what it looks like. I guess it's ok if it keeps my boy in play.

Speaking of physical conditioning, is it just me or is he about 5 lbs lighter?

Yup. Five, maybe even ten.

With him and Rosie being first ones out, I bet they finish in 3.5 hrs. Look for a much better round from him.

Reed had a tough day too.  When your playing partners are struggling it can get into your head as well, though I'd expect pro's are more immune to this than amateurs.

YouTube video - 10 minute recap of Woods' round yesterday. No commercials. Chamblee analysis in beginning. That was a bad angle, camera is too much to the right.

Look on the side menu of the YouTube page, there are many other videos like this and even a practice session video. WHO SAYS WOODS DOESN'T MOVE THE NEEDLE?

Name a player who comes back after a layoff and there are half a dozen different round/practice recap videos, decent quality, decent editing almost immediately after the round that big corporate cannot react quickly enough (I saved a copy in case) to take down?

Agree.  I think the 5 birdies tell a bigger story than the couple of wayward shots that led to 5 extra strokes on the card...

Realizing that this thread is about more than TW though, it'll be interesting to see if one or two of the leaders can back up yesterday's round today.  A couple of them could run away and hide here...

Notah Begay said he had dropped some lbs, and wasn't hitting the heavy weights much.

And now Tiger will be playing solo. Rosie WDs with a back. Will he play in less than 3 hrs? Is this good or bad for Tigs?

I think it's both.  Tiger's round was one long up and one long down.  A pros strength seems like they can get a bogey and some rare doubles but the leaders always find a way to bounce back.  I didn't see that in him yesterday.  But, then again, it is just his first round so far.

Interesting. I'm surprised he wouldn't partner himself up with another group instead of playing solo...

I agree, he could be the 3rd on the final group.

He's in last place (now), how would he warrant a final grouping?

This is more common than it may appear, just not used to Tiger being the 1st single off.

It's Tiger and it's his tourney. I bet he could if he really wanted to. Not saying he would, just that it's probably possible...LOL…

    • Day 135: worked on putting bead for a while with the 2 cups drill.
    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
