Fox's stream was great this morning, but it's been super choppy since about noon mountain time. Really annoying.

Good LSW clinic on hole 4.

Day and Rose lay up with 3-wood, then hit 6-irons over the green into the rough. Rose chips over the green, chips, back makes bogey. Day fluffs it, twice, triple-bogey.

Rory takes driver to carry the fairway bunker, end up in the rough 130 out, just catches the front bunker. Bunker shot to 1' for par.

Kevin Na in with a -4.  Did you take the over or under on the number of unplayable lies he'd have today?

In where?
I see him at -3 after his first 9 holes (he is playing the back 9 first) - good to see him make some noise on the course after making that noise about the course.

Oh, I saw him with that great chip at #18 and thought he teed off at #1.  I should have checked the clock.

Does anyone else think that Mike Davis is plotting with tee locations and pin positions to toughen the course; and maybe seeing if the folks running the HAARP project and chemtrail airlines can adjust the weather to allow this to dry out and gather up some wind?

You don't want to know. Left pin on 14 diabolical, (its middle right today), front tee on 18 may be used depending on wind.  15 has a forward tee to make it drivable. As does number 2.

I honestly don't think Davis is obsessed with toughening the course. If he wanted to really toughen this Open, he would have made it a par-70 and narrowed the fairways some. He made 6 or 7 very gettable holes, which is high for a U.S. Open. I think Davis' intention was to let the weather dictate this U.S. Open. If the wind doesn't blow and the rain comes, guys will go low like they did today. If it hardens and the wind blows, scores will come back closer to Even. If the weather forecast pans out, the course should start to harden tomorrow and the wind is supposed to blow pretty good on Sunday, despite some rain on Saturday. In the end, I don't think you'll see a ton of guys break par, especially if the wind blows really hard Sunday like they're saying it may.

All that being said, I am a bit surprised at how many guys are going low today. It's definitely not U.S. Open-like at all.

I also think the leaderboard shows the state of the game right now. Some may like it, some may not. The Players was very similar. A lot of parity going on. 42 guys under par and only one of them is ranked in the top 18 in the world.

Jason Day really struggling. That triple on 4 was really bad, and he's spraying it a bit right now. I think he's about to chip out of the fescue into a bunker. Not great, Bob.

EDIT: he chipped into a bunker, but still couldn't get to the green with his next shot.

Its just ugly watching rory and jason day right now in the "featured" group.

Leaderboard is fine with me.  Fowler leading.  Reed, snedeker, koepka, na,casey,  holmes, hoffman, garcia, johnson etc....tons of good players under par and in position.

After watching Jason Day today, my big takeaway that I will carry with me every round I play is that you can still shoot an 80 after your second triple bogey.

Usually by my second triple I give up on even having a shot to break 100. Of course I'm usually walking up to the third tee box after my second triple :-D

Yeah but you said this before Rory and Jason kept hitting driver into the fescue and sinking there chances. I have to admit  felt the long hitters would be favored but its exact opposite. The shorter hitters are doing well.

Danny Willett has really gone the wrong way since winning his green jacket last year. Dead last place right now. Hopefully this is rock bottom for him and he can bounce back and not go to the graveyard of players whose careers collapsed after winning a major championship.

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
