Biting the bullet and getting lessons. Currently deciding between paying 50$ a month on Evolvr or paying $60/hour (most likely just 1 session a month) with a local pro. The obvious advantage of the local pro is immediate feedback to any questions and adjustments that need to be made with the golf swing. The advantage of Evolvr would be the opportunity to upload up to four videos throughout the month instead of having only one 1-hour session with the local pro. Cost wise they're roughly the same per month.

As for the credentials or actual skill of the local pro, tough to say. His credentials say he's a US PGA Professional with 20 years experience. I'm not from the United States and he is perhaps one of the better coaches available.

Do I take the online lessons with four video uploads or the monthly 1-hour session with the pro? And yes, I'd take both if I could but I don't have the budget for that.

PS: I can't seem to sign up for an Evolvr account. Pressing the sign-up button just brings me back to the homepage. Anybody know what's up?

What's your golfing background?  A local pro may be better initially for things like grip, alignment and setup.    Many people on this site like Evolvr and are getting good results.

Many pro's offer a taster lesson, generally 30 mins and it gives them time to go through a few pointers like the grip and posture plus a little on yhe swing to get you going. Over here we also, depending on club, have 3 levels of teaching pro's. Lowest is usually just qualified but are great for beginners (plus lots cheaper).

Ask at your club if they can give you a taster lesson.

Will it still offer the first month free?

It never really has. We phrased it the way we did because people thought that the first month was $40+$39, when it was just the $40 sign-up cost.

The site is online now - https://evolvr.com - and we may have a few settings to change but you can sign up now.

So just to clarify - if I sign up, I'd be billed $59 straight up then $49 after a month and every month after that. I could choose to cancel the subscription by the end of the first month and only end up paying the $59 right?

@Quietus, yes. It’s priced as cheaply as we can make it while still being a little bit profitable.

You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you got one lesson and never used it again.

I don’t think that’s what he’s saying.

Does your local pro film or video his lessons? If so, then I'd say it's worth considering. I agree there is some value in immediate feedback and an "in person" look at your swing. And a good lesson with a recording that you can refer back to should give you more than enough to work on during a one month period.

That said, if you can't refer back to the key points from the lesson, that more than offsets the positives, IMO. Without any reference point, you will probably forget key elements of the lesson, which will really make it tough to practice productively.

I'm not a customer of Evolvr, but from what I understand, their on-line lessons are pretty detailed - and of course, the ability to reference them at any time just makes practice that much more effective.

All things being equal, I'd go with the in person lesson. But for $60/hr, my suspicion is that your pro isn't filming and editing his lessons afterward. And that would make it a non-starter for me. If my suspicion is correct, go with Evolvr.

It's difficult to answer since nobody knows what pro you would get lessons from. If it's a good pro, hands on is certainly preferable, but if it's a bad one, Evolvr will be better for you.

I did Evolvr for a while and improved a lot.  For me, I thought it was better than in-person lessons.  Besides the great instruction, I liked that I didn't have to schedule a lesson.  I could film and send in a video whenever it was convenient.  Sort of how they say the best diet for you is the one you stick to, this made it much easier for me to keep up.  I also liked that it got me into using video to analyze my swing.

I only stopped because I had kids and ended up playing much less frequently.  Now that I'm playing more again, I've been thinking of re-joining.

@iacas does it matter if I've had an account previously or not when activating an account on this new site?
