Sergio. Bad move to show up in a tournament. Wait a couple of months, then go back to the tour saying that you lernead your lesson away from golf and now everything will be different.

It's been mentioned here a few times in the topic that's specific to this.

Definitely Sergio, although there could be a lot fewer "KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCHs" being yelled from the stands.

Sergio is a jackass and probably deserves to be heckled. Kuchar, on the other hand, didn't really do anything "wrong", he is just a cheap bastard and might have lost the respect of some of his fans.

I don't even think he's cheap (or a bastard). He was using a rental caddie. Rental caddies need to accept their role and worth.

I’m watching now and I don’t here much noise from the crowd at all when they show Kuchar or anyone else for that matter.

Because of the caddie thing…

I voted Sergio. I think more people are split on Kuchar than Garcia. I think more people will give Garcia a hard time for the hopes of a reaction....

If someone yelled "Boooooo" as opposed to "Koooooooch", could you tell the difference?

What's wrong with you people?  Sergio apologized, twice.  Where is Kuchar's/Moocher's apology?

Kuchar doesn't need to apologize for paying above and beyond what was contracted with his caddy. They agreed to $4,000 for a top 10 finish and Kuchar gave him additional money beyond that thanks to the win.

A percentage of winnings for a win was not in the contract.

I'm going to buck the trend and say Matt. Personally I have no issue that he paid his employee the amount agreed upon before the event started. I just think for a lot of people its going to smack of a rich guy screwing a little guy. Sergio was just being himself and had no effect on anybody else.

He paid more than the amount agreed upon.

Only on golf boards on the internet is this a thing.  It has no traction out there in the real world.

So a serious side question - if that's a fair pay scale for a local caddie, why not use a local caddie every week?  Seems like it would save money and a good local caddie should know the course well to provide some local knowledge.

With so much money on the line I would want someone I can trust. Someone who knows my game, how I have performed in the past on certain holes, and knows exactly what to say at the right moment. Not some random local caddie. Some of these tour pros have been playing these courses for years and have a lot of experience at the courses as well

I think a lot of players value a caddie's knowledge of his (the player's) specific abilities, preferences, attitudes, they value a personal relationship more than they value detailed course knowledge.  For some players, it seems like the caddie is as much a shrink as anything else.

Kuchar didn't necessarily do anything "wrong" - he's just seem by some - not all - as "cheap."

What Sergio did - five separate times - was seen as "bad" by all.

Short answer: because a trusted caddie adds more value than you'd otherwise get from a local dude. If they save you ten shots a year they will often have more than made up for the difference, plus, it makes the experience much better. And they do other things like map the course, carry your bag on practice days and around the practice areas, rake up balls for you, etc.

I agree with everything you are saying, but it just solidifies that MK was a little cheap here.  Obviously the local guy didn't make the experience negative or he wouldn't have played well.  He should have offered the guy $10K-20K more at a minimum when he won and instead paid $1K.

Supposedly the PGA TOUR has a recommended pay scale for when you use a local caddie - has that ever been disclosed in all this internet chatter?

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
