Living in the great Northeast as I do the beginning of the golf season can be tricky weather wise.

For instance last week which was the first week of my league was 50F and raining.

Tomorrow, like most days, is going to be mid 60F when I head out to play, but it will likely be low 60 and cloudy/ no sun by the time I make it back in.

It is will be windy and slightly cloudy. My constant dilemma is wearing shorts and a vest and end up being cold when the sun goes down or the cool breeze kicks in, or wearing pants and my lined vest and being to hot.

Now I walk every round, so I tend to run hot, but I dislike being uncomfortable, so a cool breeze can set me off.

If i am not at ease my game suffers.

SWMBO finds it crazy that for 1/2 the year my car become a hamper as I pack for every possible scenario.

I guess in the cool weather I would rather have my mid section warm and let the legs and arms stay warm by walking. anyone have a good process? A temp treshold to determining shorts or pants?

I know some guys who wear shorts at 50F and some guys who wear pants at 90F.

I have a feeling I am over thinking this, but better to think it out here than get a blank stare from SWMBO.

I am a big guy who knows all about getting uncomfortable.  But the new fabric they use on golf clothes - whatever that "moisture wicking" stuff is - causes me no problems.

I can even wear pants when it's warm and I'm not uncomfortable.  (The Nike "dri-fit" or something like that)

So I voted pants.

I wear shorts in 50+ degree weather.  If there is a chance of rain I make sure I keep my rain pants in my bag...

I wear pants no matter what.. I play in 100+* heat and it doesn't bother me.. (Not humid weather though, although I doubt It would make me change my mind)

I played in shorts yesterday.  53F and windy.  I wore a long sleeve top.  My legs were never cold.

I always wear pants. Even during the summer. Keeps the sun off and is cooler. Of course it depends on the fabric.

Pants. The heat doesn't bother me as much as being cold does, so I layer up in questionable weather and shed layers as needed.

If I know the weather during my round is going to have some big temperature fluctuation I will stick with the shorts. Definitely prefer being too cool over being too hot.

Shorts if weather will be 60 degrees or more for at least half the round (will start with pullovers), long pants if under 60 for more than half the round.

Wore long pants more times this winter than I had the last 5 years combined. Combination of cold weather almost every Saturday morning this year and joing a group that tees off a bit earlier than I used to.

Pants when it's around 50, other than that, I wear shorts every day I play.  Can't stand wearing pants on the golf course.

If it's into the 50s or below I may put on pants, but otherwise it's shorts whenever possible (which is about 10 months out of the year here).

I'm with you, Elmer.  Staying WARM is first priority.  When you live in the Northeast (Ohio here) it means the first two months of golf season can be anything from snow to 80 (rare) degrees.

Golf league is especially dicey because the reported HIGH temperature for the day is likely 1 hour before you tee it up.  From there into the evening, the temperature drops like a rock.

Last Thursday, high temp was 45 with 25mph winds.  I wore long thermal underwear, golf slacks thick socks and my rain pants on bottom half.  On top it was UA Cold Gear mock turtle neck, a Nike zip-up-to-my-chin second layer, a Nike wind/rain resistant jacket and my rain jacket over that.  Stocking cap on top and my winter golf gloves.  The only place that got cold was my face due to the wind.  Although unable to swing the club anywhere near full, I was pretty much toasty warm the entire round.  By the time I jumped into the car after playing, weather was a balmy 36 degrees.

I can't believe I've typed this much without stating how much I HATE Ohio weather!!!  It'll get warm mid- to late-June ... I hope!

As far as wearing shorts, I'm ok with them most of the time.  It's my top-half that has to warm!

As soon as it's consistently above 60, I'll be in shorts.  50 and sunny, and I'll still probably be in shorts. :smartass:
