The Golfing Union of Ireland is to Ireland (both north and south) as the USGA is to the US.

It existed "before the border" because it predates the 1916 uprising, the founding of the Republic of Ireland, and the partition of Ireland on 3rd May 1921, which, in this context, is meaningless anyway, because it's an amateur golf association for a geographical area, not a political jurisdiction.

Your post makes zero sense.

The point being that you represent Ireland, not Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Last round was boring as hell. Hard to believe nobody could put on a charge to catch a leader who can't shoot par on the last round. I should have quit watching an hour earlier. JB Holmes nearly caught David Duval with the worst round of the week. Maybe he needs to change his name back to John Holmes (anybody remember that, and why he now goes by the "JB" name?)😉

Good to catch up on this thread; and some of the idiocy contained therein.
Great win for Shane, Saturday was a dominant performance. can't wait to see what he does from here.

I feel sorry for those who only watch Tiger, there are a bunch of great players on the tours these days.

IMHO, therein lies the problem with the viewership.  No one is dominating golf.  When someone stands out head-and-shoulders above the rest, it peaks people's interest-you either root for or against that person.

When there are a lot of great players (relatively speaking), it is fractures the viewership.

IMHO, if you have more than three or four great players, it is hard to get interested in watching.

I get what you’re saying but I think it’s exiting if they’re all close and going at it. With the exception of Tiger, I’d rather see a flock of nobodies be one stroke apart and battling at it than popular  players taking turns having the tournament won with 10 holes left.

You don't think Koepka is dominating in majors? That has certainly piqued my interest.

Over the last five years, you’ve gotten a preview of what the game will like moving forward. You have dominating pieces, but new ones keep emerging. Rory looked liked the next best thing in 2014. Then Spieth went 1st-1st-4th-2nd-2nd in majors in 2015-16. Now Koepka is dominating in majors. I expect within a couple years someone like Wolff will go on a majors run and dominate.

I think this is the place we’re at with golf. I think it’s fine as long as you don’t have 20 different winners over 20 different majors. You’re seeing greatness, but because of how strong and deep the game is, it’s so hard to keep it going.

"Moving forward" ? ....PLEASE... NO! Isn't this place a sanctuary from that kind of redundancy? :-)

Don't watch when the wind blows then as you are unlikely to see any Americans in contention to win.

Not true.  It depends entirely on the course where golfers are raised.  Americans who play at courses on the sea front, or in places where there is a lot of wind, learn to manage these conditions.  Not all golfers in any country play only links type courses.  Even in the UK and Ireland you will get courses with very little wind

Thats a celebration

Gotta love a guy who knows how to celebrate.  Hope those aren't only agents, trainers and family.  Hopefully the rank & file got to celebrate with him.  I remember when Tiger Woods won his first Masters and showed up at my local watering hole to celebrate.  Oh, was he 21 yet?  😉

That’s pretty awesome. So cool. Makes me wish I lived in Ireland. Nothing against Brooks Koepka but I imagine when he wins he goes home, pounds his gf and then gets up early the next morning to pump some iron.

I heard that Koepka doesn't pound his girlfriend.  She wants to go slow and that does not work for him.

CPG is a great follow on twitter. Not everything lands, but he has a pretty good hit rate.
