Picked up a birdie on 1.    Had a 60-yd pitch that rolled up and hit the flag stick and left me with a kick in birdie.   (i still contend that it was going a good speed adn the Eagle was denied by COVID stick.)

Been busy so late post but on Tuesday I checked off #2 on my Par Challenge.  Also got #6 & #8 but already had those.  Was thrilled with the up & down to save par on #6 after bad 2nd shot left me behind a tall tree 40 yards from the green.  I opened my 60* wedges and got it up over the tree and onto the green then sunk a 25' put for par.  I'm running out of weeks to finish this challenge.  Need to shoot well the next two league nights.

Hole #14 birdied it yesterday.  Par 4 386 yards from the White tees.  Hammered my Driver straight out and caught the upward hill leaving 90 yards to the middle.  Elevated green and all you can see is the top part of the flag.  Hit my 52* Wedge dead on the pin leaving a tap in for the Birdie.  I was a 1/4" off on my putt on Hole 15 just missing back to back Birdies.  Add in Hole #4 I would have Birdied but i had a water ball penalty so i salvaged a very nice par.

Great to check off Hole 14 as it is a tough Par 4

Updated my "away courses" as the result of play during my recent vacation.  A par on Thursday made it so I don't have any bogeys remaining on my ringer card (still have I think five on my "home course" card, but that's another story) and I also added a birdie!

Played my Home Town course today and collected 2 Birdies.  I birdied the first hole and tapped in a 2" putt on the 9th hole for my 2nd birdie of the day.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had a rough round at league this week, did not check off any that I needed but did par both Par-3s which helped a little.  Only 2 weeks of league left so only 1 more chance on the back nine next week and the front nine in two weeks.  I'll need some really good rounds to hit the challenge.  I hope I do not need to play an extra 18 holes on the weekend to finish the challenge.  It's not that I do not like the course, but have played it weekly all year and prefer some different scenery on the wekends.

I got two new birdies today, on the fourth and fifth holes. The fourth was after I hit a knockdown 8I within a foot, the fifth after I hit a 7I to six feet. That makes 11/18. I’ve yet to birdie holes 2, 7, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 18. I think I can get 2, 7 and 11 before the year’s up. The other four will be tough.

Away course - made a very nice Birdie on Hole 4 at The Wilds in Prior Lake. Just missed a second birdie on hole 6.  Missed a 3' putt for birdie there.

Made three birdies the last two rounds at away courses. #13 today is a duplicate, but #16 is new for the away composite as well as #18 last week.

Been stuck on two to go for a while, ticked one off the other day, just the opening hole to go.

Haven’t even come close to birdieing it for ages. Green is twenty metres or so above an undulating fairway , falls away back & sides and is always hard. Even though we’ve just left winter Ive never known it to be soft, just drains away, and difficult to stop on.

I picked up two birdies (12 and 13) on my away-course composite during my golf trip this weekend.

I'm up to 11 birdies in 14 total rounds, which is much better than I thought I'd do when I started the challenge.

Well, this week was last night of regular league (3-Club Tournament next week) and I golfed like crap.  Over 20 weeks of 9-hole rounds I parred 11 of 18 holes.  I doubt I will play there again this fall so I guess this is a challenge failed....until next year.

Birdied the par 3 15th today, new one for the away composite. Hit a good tee shot to 10', made the left to right breaking putt. As pedestrian as birdies get 😜

If I add my away composite to my home course, I'm still 6 holes away from filling out the sheet.

Just double checked and I have completed "par" on 16 of 18 holes at my home course this year.  Only 10, 11 remain for "par".  As I am working to achieve par all the way around, this is a great accomplishment.  BTW - #11, is the most difficult hole on the course but still a doable par.  Love looking back and seeing how I've progressed over the year. Still 3 mo's to get those two par. Hoping 2021 I can focus getting birdies on all 18.

I still have f***ing hole 1 and 2 left.

I lipped out the last two times I played #1. I was about six inches short on two the last two times I played it. I think I've lipped out on 2 12 times this year.

I should probably hit a few more putts before I play. I'm running out of time.

Birdied the 6th hole today, that's new. Smoked my 2h off the tee and had about 90 yards left to the flag. Pulled the approach a little but the pin was back left so I ended up 12' from the hole. Putt was left to right and slightly downhill and I hit it dead center.

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
