The air is denser and the balls wont travel as far.....The greens will be softer and not be as lightning fast as they normally are either due to little rain this time of the year. .

How does air density have anything to do with the time of year? It can be high or low pressure at any point during the year. Also, air density has much less effect than you might think it does.

They can make the greens as fast as they want, regardless of moisture.

Temperature mostly affects air density.

Interesting. It's true that temp affects the distance the ball flies much more than density tho, right?

When temperatures increase, objects expand and become larger and therefore the density decreases. When temperatures decrease, objects condense and become smaller so density increases.    Within a limited range, the ball will fly a little farther in warmer weather than colder weather.

My point was it's not about weather pressure systems. Air density is mostly a function of temperature.

Which player 40 y.o. and above you think could have the best shot to win the Masters this year?  Not Tiger I'm afraid. He can't seem to get out of this funk from playing in the early weekend groups. He has had a string of tournaments where he barley makes the cut and struggles on the weekend. For the win...I think Paul Casey perhaps. Phil Mickelson I think could win too.  Maybe not win but I think Bernhard Langer and Fred Couples will make the cut.

How was Tiger last year before he, I don't know… won the Masters? Pretty middling, no?

I'm not saying he will or won't do anything. And I'm a big fan of the negging as a sort of preparatory measure for one's expectations or hopes, but at the same time… Augusta is a different beast altogether. The course knowledge is super important there, even though it's being hosted in November now, and who has more knowledge about what it takes to win or play well there than Tiger?

Of course, his back could be having a bad week and he could MC, but the above stuff, meh. He looked pretty much the same last year, and the year before he led at the British and gave us a run at the PGA.

Yeah, but other than the start of the year, Tiger hasn't been playing very well.  Going into the 19 Masters, he was trending in the right direction.  This year, things don't look as good.  His driving appears to be a bit better, but he still has that big miss to the right (there was a hole on the back 9 that he kept trying to hit a draw and block/cut it into a creek).  His iron play is still pretty decent as most of his big misses were balls coming out of the rough and bouncing off the back of the green.  However, he is putting worse than he ever has in his career according to SG putting.  Maybe he can pull a green jacket-wearing rabbit out of the hat again, but he's got some work to do to do it.

@ncates00, putting is the area of the game where it's easiest to just go from zero to hero in a few minutes.

Change something in the setup, whatever… and bam! You feel instantly better.

And again… course knowledge.

I think if Tiger is gonna win another major, it's going to be the Masters. I would think that he knows that.

Yep. When slumping Lee Trevino would switch putters. He found one in a garage of a house he staying in for the 1974 PGA and proceeded to win the championship with it.

I wonder what the average temps are when it'll be held? Probably not much of a bearing as I'd think though.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
