I actually don’t mind fans howling after Wolff hits a drive.

Thank you to the USGA for cutting the rough just that little bit on Wednesday,

Signed,

DeChambeau and Wolff

I know opinions are prolly mixed on this, but I just don’t like this new power game that BDC is bringing to golf. I don’t think it helps the game to be able to bomb and gauge and do away with accuracy off the tee. Accuracy off the tee is basically Non-existent now. It’s like the NBA. It used to be about shooting and now it’s about size and dunking which is part of the reason I don’t watch that league anymore.

I was thinking the same thing - everyone is just now realizing/seeing what @iacas & Dave Wedzik have been preaching for years.

Really hope is doesn’t turn into a 2 player shoot out tomorrow. Would be a great last round if they both drop a couple of shots early.

Three days and the leader is only 5 under? I think Winged Foot is definitely doing something right.

I was busy playing a 6 hour round today but how the heck did Wolff shoot a 65 while only hitting two fairways?! 😳

He said he got decent lies in the rough. Others weren’t so lucky.

Some of those misses included the first cut, which is barely longer than the fairway, or fringes, or fairway bunkers (where lies can be okay).

He drove the ball well.

Danny Lee didn't putt the ball well here:

I mean, we all get frustrated but that's just sophomoric.

I hear you and agree that we all can appreciate those who are skilled in their respective sports rather than simply over-powering a sport, but I would offer that all of the time and effort today’s athletes put into their training and bodies is probably a bigger requirement to be successful in today’s era than in the day’s of our fathers and grandfathers, thus power naturally becomes a bigger factor in the sport than in years past. As athletes get bigger, stronger, faster, sports will inevitably change/evolve in they way they are played out.  If you seriously don’t want to watch golfers over power courses and the sport in the years to come, there’s always the Champions Tour to watch 🙃

Never know Wolff's swing was so unusual.  That twitch he has to start it is also interesting.  It's def going to distract me as I watch today's final round. 😄

I mean, I’ll still watch and I agree it’s not on the players themselves...they’re just trying to take advantage of the current day and age with getting bigger and stronger. I would just like to see the PGA combat that more, whether it be tweaking equipment or growing out rough to insane levels at over 300 yards.

My concern is simply this: accuracy off the tee isn’t as big a deal anymore...hitting it 400 yards is. I’m just hoping that trend in the game doesn’t continue.

Watching the U.S. Open right now is like watching the golfers at your local muni on a Sunday morning. They are all 15 over par.

Hey! I resemble that remark! Lol. Headed to the course here in a bit so gonna miss a good chunk of the action today.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
