My third line was realizing I knew what four were and seeing about 5 options for the first letter. Eliminated three and then got lucky with line 4. 

That was a good strategy, wish I had thought of it.

My process (with spoilers):

So I start with LATER and then COINS. That gave me AT in the right place and C in the wrong place. Couldn't think of anything that was -AT-C, which left -ATC- and then I figured it had to be -ATCH. That left me with I think BATCH CATCH HATCH LATCH MATCH PATCH and WATCH. CATCH and LATCH were already eliminated by my first two, but that left lots of options. My third word was HUMPY. That eliminated three, confirmed -ATCH and got the vowels out if I was being dumb (plausible). Left me with BATCH and WATCH and I guessed right on go four. I'm guessing there will be plenty of people who don't get it today. It was tempting to go for the three, but could have caused big trouble.

Decided to go really safe after 3 guesses and eliminate a bunch of letters. That was the right call. Not sure I would have gotten it otherwise.
