Ouch!   One thing to be disqualified.  Being written up with names…they deserved it, but damn.  Usually these things get quietly taken care of.

I wonder how they got informant on the team.  Usually charity outings are groups of people that know each other.

If they cheat for a plastic trophy and some misc. swag, what do they do at other times?

It sounds like they were suspected serial cheaters and then they cheated by 10 strokes.

I love how they blurred the informant’s name and image in the article, as if anyone involved couldn’t easily figure out who it was.

I once saw a team of blatant cheaters get their butts whipped and their clubs broken/stolen at a Detroit Muni. People were less tolerant of being robbed with a pencil in the 80's.

Maybe the informant used an assumed name and they're blurring it to allow reuse?

I know a few people who won't enter 4 person scrambles, for this reason...    i've heard stories from people i know who entered a scramble with 2 scratch golfers and 2 more low handicap golfers and they turn in a legit score of -15 under par...  and the winning score was -25 under par..... from 4 guys who couldnt par a hole if they used mulligans....    and just blatant cheating..

And that was only because they had an informant on THAT team. IMHO, the other top teams probably had a bit of shenanigans going on as well. Figuring if they put in for a 56 or 57, that should be enough to win. They just didn't expect that this team would cheat more than they did.

This is why the only time I play in scramble tournaments is when it's either set up for members/guests of a private course (with strong discouragement/penalties for cheating), if it's for a charity I like, or if it's on some private course I'd otherwise be unable to play and want to try out.

When I was a plus handicap years ago I played a scramble with one pro and two other plus handicaps because one was a friend who wanted to put together a team of ringers to win the event. We shot a 52 (par 71, 19 under) on a course regularly used for US Open qualifiers, and we still "lost" to a group of guys who regularly struggled to get the ball into the air on the range and out on the course. My buddy had assumed that blatant/obvious cheaters like that would've had their scores tossed out since it was a reasonably large event that was put on by the local PGA chapter, but it wasn't and they kept the not-insubstantial (but not amateur disqualifying) prizes for winning.

After that experience I decided to only play in scrambles if I liked or wanted to try a particular course and had some friends to just enjoy an afternoon with while potentially supporting a cause I agree with. Outside of private events that are organized by courses or specific groups that will monitor and prevent cheating, I don't go into any scramble with the expectation of doing anything but having fun with friends out on the golf course.

    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙

    • Day 30, 1/30.  Six minutes this morning hitting a few more range balls, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Did this before leaving the house.

    • Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
