I thought you were gonna post them but here they are.

Assuming your comment was sarcasm, right? Scheffler/Burns and Xander/Cantlay felt obvious, and Fowler/Morikawa isn't that big of a surprise either.

Homa/Harman is the only one I'm surprised by.

No sarcasm. I should have said the opening session. I thought for sure team USA would have lead with Speith/Thomas. Homa/Harman was the biggest surprise opening session and as a pair. I agree Burns and Scheffler and Cantley/ Xander should have been on my radar. Did not think of Rickie and Colin as a pairing or opening session.

I think the fact that this is foursomes not four ball to start probably plays a role in who was selected to play this session. If JT is still struggling some it's much easier to have him in fourball vs foursome.

Scheffler is likely one of the main reasons Burns made the team over other players who performed similarly or even better than Burns did this year, so no surprise there that they are paired.

And Xander and Cantlay are pretty much always paired together in stuff like this and they went 3-0 together in 2021.

My prediction for this session is 2-2. I think Viktor/Ludvig win, Ricky/Colin win, and then each side wins one of the other two matches.

Maybe foursomes played in. At Whistling they started with foursomes also. I am a big fan of alt shot format at the Cup. So much fun to watch how the partners go about it.

I haven't been all that hyped for the Ryder Cup, but now that I see those pairings, I'm pumped and ready. Those look like a lot of fun. Rory/Fleetwood could be very dangerous. Rahm/Hatton could be explosive. The US's 1st and 4th pairings look extremely strong.

Ironically, I'll be sleeping during these matches. I'll catch some of the fourballs in the morning, but I'm definitely going to miss all of the morning matches.

I have not paid attention to the PGA Tour all year. I have no clue how to evaluate the matches. Maybe the most interesting on the European side is Viktor and Ludvig. Two young guns. From the American side of things. It is kind of meh for me. Meaning, nothing exciting about the pairings. I like Rickie and Collin, so maybe them from a personal fan standpoint.

Rahmbo lives in Scottsdale.

Viktor Hovland lives in Oklahoma.

Ludvig Aberg lives in Texas.

Fitzpatrick went to Northwestern for a season, former resident.

Fleetwood lives in Dubai, plays on the PGAT enough he might as well have a house here.

Luke Donald went to Northwestern and lives in Jupiter.

One could argue Justin Rose is technically S. African ( born there), lives part time in Orlando. Runs youth foundation here.

So, the odds of an American citizen or US work visa holder or a US resident being on the winning team is pretty darn good. 😀 LOL

Done this many times (not a hole in one, but my best golf). In fact I might qualify for the Pepsi Tour if it were played on a practice round. 🙂

Scheffler is a fantastic match play golfer. I know he's been struggling but an event like this might be just what the doctor ordered. Patrick Cantlay is also quite a good match play golfer. With that said I think Luke Donald was very smart to make the opening round Foursomes. Takes away the US's match play record strength. I think we will see a 2-2 or 3-1 to the Euros after the opening round.

Really it's just been his putting that's been struggling, right? I think he's been pretty good tee to green this year

Edit:

Yep, this is for 2022-2023 season

Awful! That was an ass beating in the morning session. Team US needs to rebound and fast. The putting was garbage.

    • Day 237 (26 Dec 24) - played 18 with niece and her husband at one of the local courses.  We were first out - so we pretty had our own pace of play.  First few holes were a struggle, but the groove started by hole 5.  The green side wedge game kicked in - had several kick in up and down pars.  Best of the day - had my first ever sandie birdie on #9. It’s a neat par three with a pot hole bunker - found it off the tee.  Had about a 22yd shot from the bunker to the flag.  Hit an easy shot out with the 54 that hit softly and gently rolled center cup.  Had several other close wedge shots into others that were close but no hole out.  Was a great day with the green side wedge game - and seeing solid fruit from the drills.
