My ball-striking improved in 2023 vs 2022 but short game and putting weren't great especially in the first half of the year. Feel like I ended the year playing better than I started the year so no complaints overall.

My index is usually carried by a stretch of golf in the summer where I play my best every year. Last year I played enough golf that most of those scores dropped off. The good thing is if I play in a tournament in Spring like I did last year, the 16.1 is going to be a lot easier to play to than the 12.4 was.

Also I forgot how to short game sometime in September. Not that I was any good to begin with, but somehow I got worse.

DIdn't play much during peak season. Spent nearly six weeks moving Golf Evolution to our new location, so that hurt. Got to a handicap just above 0.0 briefly so I was glad it got back to + by the end of the year.

A slow but steady increase in my handicap. Ironically, I think I hit the ball better than I ever have this year. Would really like to get those rounds higher, but I can’t complain too much.

The summary pretty much tells an accurate story, poor Spring, decent Summer, poor Autumn.

Really mediocre golf year for me - aside from one “lifetime” round in late May, I was basically a 7-8 index posing as a 5-6. I wish I could say that I see it improving in 2024, but with my work travel resumed and kids sports and activities occupying an increasing share of my time, my rounds are going to be limited in the near term. With that being said, I am going to do better at finding pockets of time to hit the range, and be exceedingly intentional with every swing, practice or otherwise.

Obviously a disappointing season for me scoring-wise. 7.9 was close to my best ever handicap, and I was for sure playing my best ever golf. My lowest ever was 7.7 years ago before I had a kid when I could play more and also was playing easy wide open courses in LA where I could spray and pray and usually have an open look for approach and get good differentials just because I'm long and the course rating/slopes were not super low because of distance.

Last year I had a good bunch of rounds in the 70s and was having a blast. But I felt like I was hitting a plateau so I embarked on a new round of lessons and swing changes at the beginning of the season this year. I feel like a step forward into playing in the 6-7 range is in sight if not guaranteed. But this season I was never able to put it together. I had lots of rounds with 6-8 hole stretches in the -1 to +1 range paired with a few triples and bogey stretches. Lots of cards with one nine at 38-41 and the other at 45-50. Lots of mechanical thoughts creeping in and the like. Playing lots of golf swing instead of golf.

Overall glad I took the hit this season though. Kicking off new season with 5 rounds at Bandon in a few weeks and really excited for it!
