I've been to Appleton a few times. I don't recall it being that boozy.

I'm sensing a theme here eh @cipher!

Has anyone beside me noticed that all of those are Northern U.S. cities?! That may be because the Winters are long and cold and dark!

A sad fact indeed about this area.  It is crazy how much drinking goes on here.  It does keep my shop full of cars though!  :-)

My friend's aunt passed away recently and they were clearing out her basement, came across some bottles of old stuff from the sixties. He doesn't drink so he told me to come take it. Are any of these any good or worth anything being this old?

Nice. My sister just moved there last month. I want to take the family up for a visit sometime. She loves it there so far.

Your sister moved to a tap room?

Nope. All pretty run of the mill, nothing special.

Even with the age?  There was a bottle of old rum that I tasted that was soooo smooth, the sugars had really developed nicely and mellowed.

She does like to drink and mingle so maybe. I know it's down the street from one at a minimum.

Distilled alcohol doesn't age once bottled like wine does. 10 year old scotch is still 10 year old scotch even if you keep for 50 years.

Ok, that makes sense. But does anything else happen to it? My father in law found an old old bottle of Southern Comfort last year and it tasted incredible compared to a new bottle.

That honestly would probably be the best course of action. If I were a wise man I would have thought of that myself...

Keep that J&B bottle. That is an old label that they have not used in ages. Love it.

Agreed, most of the labels, especially the Canadian Seagram's brands are classics that you don't see anymore. Hell, the Seagram distillery doesn't even exist anymore!

So can I drink them but just keep the labels? Are they valuable or just of a "cool" value?

I'd keep them unopened. You can't replace it and what you can get at the store is close enough. That J&B bottle is fantastic, would look really cool next to vintage barware.

Agreed. They are just cool bar pieces with more value as they are.  Not sure they are worth a lot but probably not that many unopened 50 year old bottles floating around anymore. Keep them on bar shelf for show with a more current version underneath for drinking.
